I been in the army seven years, never had any type of credit cards or debts. I just got this card today and I feel confident it will be useful. But I would say that no one should get any credit card if you don't have the discipline to use it properly.

Credit cards are like a saw. It can be incredibly helpful, but be careless and it’ll cut you.

One odd flex when I was using the Star card was skipping HUGE lines inside the PX when using that card. haha, they sometimes have a dedicated line for star card users and I would skip big lines that would take like 20-30 minutes. This was at NTC.

But this was money I was already spending so there was no downside of getting this card and using it.

This card is a no brainer for new servicemembers to get. Everyone in service automatically is approved regardless of credit score or history. Then, if you don't want to use it, you don't have to use it. The card doesn't get deactivated until you leave the service. No annual fees or minimum spends in a year. So as long as you are in and as long as you never miss a payment (by never using it), your credit score will only go up. The military is doing everyone a favor by creating a card that reports to the credit rating agencies that just boosts people's FICO scores for free.

I have one but rarely use it. Just be smart about how you use and budget your money. Eat at the DFAC. Don't fix stuff that's not broken. If you're going to buy a car, make sure you go with an NCO. It's tempting to spend money but if you budget, you won't stress too much about it.

If you live on base and have discipline it’s worth getting in my opinion, saves on gas and 10% off at most of the food spots on base.

It's probably been said but you should take this video down or edit it to give the correct information.

1) You do not get 2% back on purchases. You get 2% back toward a future purchase through their points system. There is a big difference. The 10% back on food is processed with your statement (functionally immediate). The 2x points per dollar is for future purchases.
2) You have to spend $1000 to get $20 back, not $500.
3) The 10% off first day is a great bonus for those who plan to make a large purchases such as technology or outdoor equipment.

Overall, good video, but accuracy of information is important with over 100, 000 subscribers. This is an excellent starter card for those in the military, and beats many secured cards simply for the lack of needing a deposit and having no annual fee. It is worth keeping for getting 10% off exchange food purchases and 2x back on the remaining cost of the food, plus the promotions that are run periodically. Otherwise, as you mentioned, there are countless cards that offer more value for your money (USAA Cashback Rewards Plus Amex, Amex Platinum or Gold, Citi Double Cash, Chase Freedom, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Discover It, etc..)

Had this card Active duty for 7 years, responsibly paying always before due dates and I made it to 730 credit score from zero credit.

That thing about purchases at MCSS(if you qualify) is because now all disabled vets can get a STAR card, and shop in person, on post at Exchange and Commissary. We can't buy anything at MCSS, but we sure can go inside and look. HOOAH!

A big con of the star card is debt. If you don't pay your star card on time, after continuous non-payments, a penalty is applied to your account and you can't use it until you get it settled with the star card company or you just pay what you owe AND if its still not paid after a certain amount of time, they take it up your chain of command, all the way up to your commander.

Good information i only wish u would have explained what are the negative things about it, such as how they can reach out to your COC if u start to fall behind on payments etc

You get 10% off food at the food court but you are at 12.5% APR.  If you are not responsible with your money, you will pay more then you gain from the discount.  However it is great for getting clothing items.  Even as a Reservist I like the fact that I can get many things at Clothing Sales and not pay interest.
