As a counselor, what I see here is two people with the same purpose and desire trying to communicate a similar concept in two different ways. The difference is the direction their starting from. But the end result is the same. Both are wonderful thinkers and teachers. I'm so glad they talked.

Seeing as Dr. K is a psychiatrist, meaning that he's a medical doctor trained in Western medicine, I have a lot of respect for his opinion on all this. He's not proposing we stick with one approach and disregard the other! I really appreciate his nuanced, open-minded perspective. His free, online content has helped me tremendously without ever having met him or had direct communication with him.

Dr. K was folding trying to restrain himself from interrupting. Lol

When Dr. K said “Ye….YUP…Yeeea…mhhmm—no, no, no!” I really felt that.

I have been with ayurvedic practitioner, and the approach was as Dr. K said. He gave a sheet of paper with most of the fruits, lentils, grains and other stuff like milk yogurt ( so not the dishes but ingredients) written in it. He circled 15 things and said you are only allowed to eat these for next 15 days, come back after that and we will check the progress

Admittedly, I don't know much about the practice of Ayurveda as a whole, but I've found the examples and practices as Dr. K has described them to be helpful. That is in no way a blanket approval of all things Ayuravedic, just a statement that it does contain some things I've personally found to be helpful. The danger with medicines, whether religious or scientific in nature, comes from people in a vulnerable position resigning all critical thought and personal agency to experts. That's _also_ not an endorsement of the paranoia the mainstream medical community has faced in recent years, which is roundly undeserved.

I'm just saying that everything should be approached with balance and an attentive mind, which is really what Dr. K has said, both as a doctor and a former monk. The day he tells me to start drinking turtle soup to balance my chi I'll be the first to sound the alarm XD

This is an interesting collab and interview. The HealthyGamer reminds me a lot of myself and something I’m working on. I can get impatient and come off arrogant when feeling misunderstood in a conversation. Learning to take a breath, let the other person finish, and follow up with ‘yes, and… (clarify)’ is difficult but so valuable.

I never believed in ayurveda or yoga to work. That was until I have seen studies that I have considered trust-worthy. Then I started to take Ashwaghandha, do yoga and yoga nidra, etc. It worked. It could be just placebo, but working placebo is still working one. This is just one anekdote ofc, however that is what life is based on.

Imagine that - a unique individual with unique dna and medical history and exposures being better suited to utilizing a treatment that's different from another unique individual. You don't scale out - you use large pools of data for information and make a best educated guess for the specific individual - and observe and adapt if needs be.

It's wonderful to see you two having a conversation. Maybe some people will learn a thing or two about how to have conversations instead of starting arguments all the damn time *looks at comments section *

If your goal is to treat as many patients as physically possible then Dr Mike has the right idea.
On the other hand if your goal is to give the most thorough treatment possible to your clients then I would go with Dr K's method.

Eastern medicine may sound mystical, but it's actually often applying the same principles with different names. The "energies" in chinese medicine can be translated with biochemical processes.
