I absolutely love this. I’ve always hated the stigma around discussing salaries being inappropriate or rude. It has allowed companies to get away with paying people less than their peers for the same job. It also allows companies to be racist or sexist and completely get away with it as well. they are also in school for 15 years post high school to make that money. College, Med School, Specialty Training, Internships, Residency, Attending, Hands On Real World Experiences in the trenches in the field all day every day. The salaries are impressive but the training to get there is even more impressive.

My dad and his brother were in a private practice as surgeons together. The sacrifices they made were real. Middle of the night phone calls, going from 0-100 to get the hospital for emergency surgeries, and very long days. However, I was always proud of my dad—not because of his salary—in fact, he accepted barters occasionally—but because he was helping people. So, do the things you are good at and love, but do it to help people.

These salaries aren't outrageous at all. In the corporate world and on Wallstreet plenty of completely expendable people make the same salaries and they contribute zero to the wellbeing of society. Doctors should absolutely be paid well 👍

I know that Dr.Mike will never see this or respond to it, but if he does I just want to let him know that no matter the pay, no matter the work, he has inspired me to become an osteopathic physician. I have always been interested in healthcare since the first grade and watching him has made me dead set on a healthcare career. If he has any tips or tricks for me I would love to hear them. Add malpractice insurance, stress, staff to navigate patient insurance, student debt. They make a lot, and some of the doctors have to pay a lot to be in business.
