ISO is the light sensitivity.
This used to be "film speed"
Aperture is the size of the window allowing light into the room (camera)
Shutter speed is the duration of time light is allowed to strike the sensor (film).
Aperture also controls how much blurring happens when object is out of focus. The smaller the number the wider the lens is.

How many times is YouTube gonna show me this short? 😂

I love how you explained everything so simply!

you shouldinclude the drawbacks of each to really help people understand how to use them.
high ISO: more light BUT more grainy
low shutter speed: more light BUT more blurry
open aperture: more light BUT shallower focus

Actually the ISO is not more light, it is more amplification of the light that the sensor already has. It does lighten the image but not because more light enters.

Thanks for shedding light on the subject.

Iso doesn't affect how much light hit your camera sensor, only shutter speed and aperture. Iso = sensor gain (brightness) ≠ more light

Thank you! for your simple explanation, this really help a lot for newbie like me who doesn't have photography school background 😅

Translation : if this fixed your camera problem, you didn't have a camera problem.

Shutter and aperture are the only controls that affect the amount of light, these are physical constraints, ISO relates to the sensitivity only

Only the aperture determines how much light enters your camera, the shutters peed determines how long your sensor is exposed to that light and the iso is the light sensitivity of you sensor

Something to remember: When in doubt and shooting digitally - slightly underexpose. When shooting film - slightly overexpose.
Both can be fixed in post-processing/while developing.

But also you have to understand that
Higher ISO = More grainy/noisy photo
Lower Shutterspeed = blurry photo
Lower Aperture = Shallow depth of field(less focus area)

Lower both Shutter and Aperture first before increasing the ISO.

And when you understand all this beautiful information, you will get a beautiful photograph

Understanding what they are one thing knowing how to use them in what way very different.

my old digi Nikon dslr also has a better focus if there is more light.
on lowering the light, the focus algorithm goes for a toss.
I hope that they have solved that problem with new age sensors.

ISO is only the sensitivity of the sensor in the old days the sensitivity of the film. It does not control the amount of light entering the camera. That’s only the aperture and shutter speed.

Aperture numbers are also measured from the lens body towards the center

do you have any advice for getting vintage film (126mm, 620mm, 120mm, etc)?
