YouTube Needs to Fix This

YouTube comments spam has been next-level out of control for months.

Yeah, this has become a MAJOR problem. They're able to make new accounts in just seconds and reply to comments faster than any human would be able to delete them.

8 mths later it's still happening. Calling it 'spam' makes it sound so innocuous. It's literally criminal activity, on a mass scale, to fraudulently dupe unsuspecting YouTube viewers out of their hard earned money by impersonating content creators. The fact YouTube is not serious enough about this issue is disgusting on so many levels.

Thank you for making this video. I can’t tell you how many times people blow up my DMs and email telling me my account was hacked. But it’s comment spam. So many people falling for it and I feel awful not being able to clean all of them out so people don’t get scammed.

I'm amazed how YouTube's AI/algorithm can't spot these already.

I catch A LOT of spam comments with filters (like 'winner' or 'congratulations' and 'prize') but it doesn't catch them all, and some genuine comments get caught too.

We have the same problem. We’ve had at least 3 fans (that we know of) that have paid $100-$300 in “shipping”. It’s frustrating and heartbreaking to reply to.

Missing dependency: Youtube has no motivation to control spam comments. The fact we all find it annoying and destructive is irrelevant, since those characteristics don't affect their profitability.

Ugh. These bots are extremely frustrating. There's one that loves to advertise "adult content" in the chat of my livestreams. But no matter how many times we block it, mute it, hide it from the channel, an exact copy takes it's place minutes later, making the whole effort pointless. On top of this I've been forced to disable links in my comment section, as well as making my stream chat more restrictive. I didn't want to do ANY of that, I was basically forced to. This issue had been getting gradually worse over the months, and I hope that YouTube can at least TRY to fix it.

Absolutely feel your frustration. It's getting ridiculous. This and the abusive messages towards us creators or towards other users. Then there's the conspiracy theorists, the chapters of religious spam, the adult messages and the mentally disturbing comments. Comment moderation is a full time role.

It’s baffling to me that a company as large as YouTube is not able to find a working solution for such an annoying problem.

Edit: Come to think of it, grab some people from the Gmail team to attack this. It’s amazing how much spam misses my inbox on a daily basis. At least that’s working to some extent.

YouTube also need to fix their search algorithm, it's redundant showing the same stuff after a few scrolls and recommendations.
