My grandfather use to make this all the time. we use to ride and get blocks of ice from the big ice machines from the gas station! He made vanilla, peach, strawberry, and sometimes chocolate! Yummy, yummy! That middle blade was always mine!!! Beautiful memories, thanks for sharing

Thank you! I'm 70 years old and have wanted to make this old fashioned ice cream for years. I was a child the last time I had this wonderful ice cream. I didn't make it but I remember the ingredients. This is the one!

Hello Chef! Congratulations on your retirement. I retired July of 2021, that's why I can start making all these delicious recipes you provide. My grandmother use to make ice cream, she'd do the custard with cooked eggs and we had the old fashioned ice cream maker where we had to churn it ourselves. We packed it, just like you did till it got firm. My question: Could you just place the ice cream in the Freezer to firm up, instead of re-packing? This video stirred up a lot of good family memories. Granny, Mother, Father, and Brother all gone now, just me and my sister (I'm the youngest). Thanks for taking me down memory lane. You're my Top Chef!

Thanks for the video.

Now that I no longer have young children at home, I add 1 tablespoon of Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey to the recipe.

Bring back memories, only difference is my aunt beat the egg mixture manually. I asked about a mixer but She wasn’t sure if a hand mixer could be used since she only seen it and done it by hand. It was delicious. I can inform her about the mixer now. We also added fresh fruit which was even better. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your 4th

Sweet memories for sure!!! Chef Jeff that ice cream looks sooo delicious and brings back treasures of delicious memories!!! We had homemade ice cream after church, after dinner every Sunday! We paid 25 cents at church. We really loved that lady😄 Then there were other times we were blessed to have it during the summer and privileged with taking turns churning it with that crank or whatever it was... that was work😊

Anytime a person takes homemade ice cream to a gathering, they will the favored guest. Most people are amazed to get homemade ice cream; most people have never had fresh-churned ice cream.

This homemade ice cream recipe is near and dear to my heart. My mom use to make the best custard! I can't wait to try this and more of your recipes. Thank you so much Chef J! 🙂
