Chef Johnny, you've brought back so many memories, some good, and some bitter sweet of my childhood. Summertime meant, Homemade Ice Cream season was upon us. It never failed.

Mama used to always cook her own ice cream batter using the Eagle Brand. milk. Strawberry and Banana were the usual flavors.

I had a good friend who used to come over to our house. As soon as he stepped into the house he'd say "Mom, you got any Eagle Brand"? Then she'd say "In the pantry Bob". Yeah, he'd eat that stuff right out of the can.

Everytime I hear or see a can of Eagle Brand milk I think of him. He was KIA in Vietnam back in 1967 IIRC. Great guy.

RIP Bob.

What was even better than watching you two make ice cream was watching you two get along like a married couple should. A lesson for all married couples that may be arguing with each other for any reason, make some ice cream together, drop what you’re arguing about, and appreciate each other. I made this recipe and turned out great. Only difference is I added 1 1/2 cup heavy cream to 10 1/2 cups milk to get my 12 cups. Then the 3 cans sweet condensed milk with 2 Tb vanilla extract. Same kind ice cream maker. Everyone loved it.

For a creamier taste, replace the whole milk with heavy whipping cream.

If heavy cream is too heavy and whole milk is too weak, try using Half & Half instead.
