I'd be more interested to see an M2 Max vs. Intel 13th gen / AMD Ryzen 7000 + RTX 4090 Mobile comparison. But this is interesting too. The gigantic efficiency differences aren't going to disappear overnight but especially the RTX 4000 series is a gigantic improvement in terms of performance and performance/watt.

You should have at least 20cm distance between the two laptops when doing CPU benchmark tests. Otherwise, the Apple MAcBook Pro has to cool the hot air coming out of the Windows laptop as well!

A comparison between the Ryzen 7945HX (Asus Zephyrus Duo 16 SE) vs I9 13980hx (MSI GT77 Titan HX 13V) vs M2 Max (Apple Macbook Pro 16) would be great. Those Laptops/Systems will be the fastest for every silicon

I feel like Apple doesn’t improve on the battery life of its MacBooks because the competition has not caused them to do so. I feel that if Apple’s competitors figure out how to match Apple’s MacBook battery life, they will be forced to pushing out machines that are far more powerful and power efficient than we’ve ever imagined. 1. Gaming laptops are meant to be played while plugged in, I have no problem bringing my charger with my laptop around the house. 2. A rtx 3080 ti with a i9 12th gen can definetely beat the mac, that laptop probably had a lower tgp gpu. 3 You can get a rtx 3080 ti laptop for 2500 hundred, i saw one on amazon for 2 grand. 4 Macbook pro cant play any games, and if your not a gamer macbook is probably the option for you. 5. The new rtx 4080 and 4090 (4k lowest for 4090, )laptops with a 13th gen i9 came out, they are literally 2600 for the 4080 with a 13th gen i9 compared to the macbooks pricing, much cheaper and faster. If you have a higher budget, you will probably get a macbook though.

8:35 that’s weird! I literally just tested my 14 inch M2 Max MacBook Pro, which is specced the same as this one except mine has the 30 core GPU instead of 38 cores. But mine scored well over 14, 000 points in this exact Cinebench test (~14, 300 pts I think). Now before everybody starts bashing me, I rebooted it and tested it again to make suer it wasn’t a fluke, and this time got almost the exact same score (+ 3 pts). I wonder why mine is so much faster than yours in CPU, even though yours has that higher clock speed with high power mode.

I don't think this is a fair comparison.

You are comparing the latest macbook with a laptop which has
a) last gen cpu (and not even the top of the line hx ones) and
b) GPU is capped at 90W

I 100% agree macbooks are very efficient in power consumption and battery life and no windows laptop can even come close, but compairing it with a mediocre specced laptop is not fair.

Would be great to see also some ML benchmarks between m1 max m2 max and PC. I’m wondering if the the m2 max improved like in blender. PyTorch now supports Apple silicon GPU.

I think those Intel and NVidia components need a bigger chassis with more cooling. But still, I didn't expect the absolute destruction we see here. Even in a larger chassis, I can't imagine it would be close. The 13th gen processor will help (as will the 4000 series GPUs, eventually), but probably not dramatically. Thanks for the thorough real-world testing! As always, great job!

Here in Europe the MSI is €3900 while the M2 Max is €4200. Very very different than your prices. And it's even à crazy €4700 with 64g of ram... 20% more expensive almost.

Great vid, but 4090 laptops are next week. A 4090 mobile is pretty much a 4080 desktop. For pretty much the same price point as the 3080ti one in this video. Also 3080ti laptops have dropped by 40% to 60% depending on model.
