Hey Chaps! Would you go 14, 16, or neither? ;)

Correction: at about 01:00 the numbers are the wrong way round 😅

I always thought that the sweet spot screen size was the 15.4 inch. Now you have to make compromises which sucks.

My 16” MBP M1 Max is mainly a desktop replacement for me, usually docked on a 24” 4K monitor but I’ve been thinking about going to 14” model for portability and to be able to work in more locations other than home. I’m just hesitant of the smaller screen display for photo and video editing, I remember the older 13” MacBooks really felt too small for long editing sessions.

Thank you Tech Chap. I stumbled upon this video recently after purchasing a new M2 MacBook Pro base model. I'll share that last year, I mistakenly bought an M1 Max 16in 32 GB 4TB (because it was the only available laptops at the time I needed an upgraded): although it was a hefty price paid and powerful machine, I realized that it was too much power for me in the past year.

Things I used the M1 16in. for were some video editing, zoom online education for a part-time job, live-streaming games, photo editing, typing up lessons, surf browsing a few times, etc. I was also on the go and believe me, to those who are considering between the 14in and 16in, the 14in size is what I would prefer people to get if you're deciding to bring your laptop everywhere for portability. If you are not into 3D modeling or heavy duty workload 4K production and such, 14in. is the one for you. You always don't have to own the biggest and latest tech too if you can find the M1 at a very good price. I also agree that the 16in. is more of a desktop replacement with its screen and heft. Although the 16in has great battery life, the 14in still lasts you throughout the day and depending on what you're using it for.

In conclusion, I sold my previous 16in M1 Max as it was too powerful for my needs, and am now greatly enjoying the lighter feel to the 14in M2 Pro, great screen, ports available and the latter. This year, I purchased the M2 14in pro base model and it's still a powerful machine. I hope to anyone who reads this finds peace knowing they bought the right laptop for their specific needs and not make the same mistake as I did saving money.

As an M1 pro 14 inch user. I just love the 14 inch form factor.

Was able to snag a M2 16 inch for close to $2000 from Apple certified refurbished, it was worth waiting a few months for that nice discount.

Unless it's for travelling bigger screen is ALWAYS better

Have an m1 pro 14 after trying a 16. If you have any sort of monitor setup at home the 14 is great. Great laptop size on the go and powerful enough to do work at your desk. These are a little bit of a step up from m1 but I don’t think most people would be upset with saving money and still getting the great performance/battery life of m1.

I'm a PC guy, but I love the youtube video quality made with Macbook Pros in recent years. The visual quality has been amazing.

I think if you want better speaker and screen size and longer battery life… Go for the 16inch

yeah the 16 inch is more of a desk top replacement like he said, I don't travel ever with my 16inch, I just use my 12.9 inch iPad or my 13 inch MacBook Pro 2016

I really dropped the ball getting a 14” over the 16”. That extra real estate is something I’m really needing. Make sure y’all think twice before your purchase!

I have a 2019 and I love the 16 inch way better than my smaller 13 inch MacBook Pro, it's just a more premium viewing experience.

If you need a laptop and you likely travel, buy the 14 inch. You can always connect it to an external monitor if you want a larger display.

If you need a laptop as a PC replacement and might not buy an extra monitor, go for the 16 inch. Or you just like bigger things. *wink*

Waiting for the M3 version 16. Hoping that it gets real-time raytracing like the iPhone. Of all the specs, I need to bump up memory. On my M1 with 16 GB, I hit that max limit all the time and it is frustrating. Going to max out the memory on my next Mac.

So glad i picked up the 14" 21 model at £1899, the price hike is nuts for what is offered.

Is it faster than a 2015 Ford Fiesta though?
