With principled functional training, we believe everyone can beat chronic pain and get strong, mobile, and resilient.

Our home training programs help you troubleshoot and train your body safely. We help you tear down fear and build up muscle. We help you think right, move right, and feel right.

Matt Hsu's own battle with chronic pain from the age of 16 in his feet, knees, hips, back, shoulders, elbows, forearms, wrists, hands, and head gives him a uniquely thorough understanding of musculoskeletal pain, the ways in which it can undermine an entire life, and the mental and physical hurdles that keep people from getting out of it.

When not filming videos, he's working out in the living room, surfing, learning dance or gymnastics moves, or riding a bike with his son in tow.

ABOUT THIS VIDEO
Stretching your hamstrings for the forward fold doesn't always work. Sometimes you have to activate your inner thigh muscles to improve your forward fold flexibility. If you've struggled to touch your toes for years, this simple touch touch strategy may unlock your hip mobility so you can touch the floor!

Ahh ha! Light bulb
I used to do a lot of horse riding up until 15 years ago. Since then my mobility and flexibility has deteriorated quite rapidly. Your explanation today makes me suddenly realise perhaps why.
Riding uses those inner thigh muscles all the time (otherwise you'd fall off!), plus of course the very act of mounting/dismounting also uses the inner thigh muscles. For the past 15 years I haven't used those muscles. probably explains why, bit by bit, I've become stiffer, had more pain, and generally deteriorated in mobility at a quite scary rate.
These videos certainly give a lot of food for thought, and increase understanding of how everything works. Thank you.
You are a real blessing to those of us who are getting older and are inclined to feel there's not much we can do.
You are an INSPIRATION. 😊

Wow this really worked for me 😄 I was able to touch my toes/ the floor with my palms down on the floor immediately, just by trying to squeeze my inner thighs inwards as per the video! What a great exercise. This is bound to help with my groin pain too 🙏Many thanks

Thank you, thank you, thank you! For 66 years I couldn’t get anywhere near the floor - - — well…today…I finally touched my toes. Not perfectly, but almost! I’ll get there shortly.

I can touch my toes! I have been doing this exercise every morning for the last 2 months. I had extremely tight hip flexors, and everything else associated with that. I thank you!

Wow, my adductors really don't want to fire as I bend more. While this didn't immediately help me fold better like some folks are seeing, I think working on it is going to be useful! Thanks!

Great information and an original sense of humor

Thank you. This is exactly what I needed because of my right thigh muscle being damaged and has become painfully weak. Any kind of forward bends have become impossible. Hopefully this is the exercise that I need to reach the floor as easily as I used to do.

Great video! I never thought to try that but it makes sense. I tighten up my inner thighs as a pullup assist. Underrated muscle group!

Just found this channel.. and I am so excited. I’ve been experiencing leg pain and stiffness. Figured it was because of my sedentary lifestyle. But I didn’t know where to start to fix it. You have gave me Solutoions. Thanks!!!😊

Are the adductors only muscles that stops you to touch your toes. Do hip rotators also stops you to toe touches I am curious about it i am a person with sedentary lifestyle that never been able to touch his toes i followed your video of toe touches and got improved but after a certain angle I am stuck and not making any progress further please help me to know about those muscle which can prevent my hip for toe touches so I can work on them please!

i have distal hamstring tendinopathy in my medial hamstring tendon. Stretching makes the pain worse and the muscle feels tight all the time. Any tips on how I can get the muscle to relax and get used to being in end range extension again? Thanks!

Wow. This definitely works. Also helps with the lower back pain as someone else mentioned. Thanks a lot and keep up the great work.

Additionally I was always suffering with a tenderness on palpation over my symphysis pubis bone that I couldn’t add up too. This has lessened that. Kudos.

Yes! This helped me get to say hellos to my toes! And allowed me to do the Asian squat with my feet on the ground also! Yay double benefit!

This isn't a forward fold thing, but I've been doing your Back Pain programme for 5 weeks now, and all of a sudden I can get into 5th position in ballet class. So that's really awesome!
