The brother is a legend. Your family is part of your life, but your family isn't void of justice. He stood up for her right until the point she refused to take any responsibility.

I worked for the community mental health department in the county this judge works out of, working with county residents who had Medicaid specifically. She was the ONLY judge I knew of who properly referred defendants to our program and other mental health services. So many judges would court order people who didn’t meet our criteria at all to see us for services. Naturally, if we’d tell that person they couldn’t come to our clinics, they’d tell their judge, and then the judge would blame the defendant for being too lazy to get help. Our agency had SO MANY conversations with the courts about this and it never got better. But “Scary Mary” was the only one who understood that she can court order someone to get treatment, but can’t court order a clinic to provide it. She usually told them to call us for resources in case we can’t work with their insurance, so the defendant knew outright that there were other options. I can’t speak to her character in other regards, but I always appreciated that about her.

"drug rehab is for drug addicts who WANT drug rehab." spot on! i am all in favor of helping criminal drug addicts but it only can work if the persons really wants it.

You know you done burned every bridge that you crossed, when you family says that about you. I applaud the brother, for standing up and saying she is a pos.

That's a true brother. Tell it like it is. He loves her enough to see her do some time. Great the judge made an example out of her!

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽her brother. IF she gets clean, she will hopefully see why he did that. It wasn’t done with malice. I feel for families going through this, especially if there are children involved.

I was addicted at one point in time and I've been around addicts for many years and I can say with almost certainty that a soft hand does not help an addict get better. Consequences whether it be legal or not tend to get better results

From what her brother did it can only be described as tough love! Sometimes the nuclear option just may shock her onto the straight and narrow, make her a better person and enable her to get her kids back and become a family again! Kudos to her brother!

I bet the brother had to take responsibility for the kids. He seemed really upset about that.

The fact that she had almost no reaction to her brother’s “betrayal” demonstrates that she probably really does have a serious problem and needs to be treated as such.

Her brother Might have saved her life by doing this for her. She might not see it that way, but one day when she grows up and get your life back together, she will be able to thank him.

Scary Mary probably saved some lives by doing that!! She needed it... I feel certain that she would have gotten away with again and would go right back to the same old thing and she really could take some lives next time...

Seems she finally got a dose Of Tough Love....No way did her brother enjoy lowering the boom on her in Court....BUT....sometimes that needs to happen to get these people to OPEN Their Eyes and see what they are doing to their loved ones and themselves. IF she abides by her desire to get better, then a year and a half behind bars is far better than 14 years plus AND it gives her a chance to physically and mentally get clean. Good Luck to her.

As a recovering alcoholic, I can vouch for her (in her current condition, and without some self-examination), that when she say, "I don't know why I do what I do"....she is likely telling the truth. She doesn't know, but she can learn. People will help.

Good to the brother for stepping up 👍. I believe it was hard for him to do and was done out of love.
