i’ve actually come up with a new variation of box squats. I gorilla-glued my Rogue® Squat Plug to the squat racks platform. This variation helps me because I know i’ve reached a maximal stretch while also hitting depth. i usually do this variation before my regular squat work sets because my lower body muscles are stretched and prepared to handle heavy loads.

Hey that's me! Thanks for answering my question, I have a follow up. I just always thought that training at a certain depth was to get strong at that leverage, so if you train at a certain depth and then change it up during competition how much would that affect you. I mean obviously it doesn't affect you that much but just overall.

Yeah I had this problem too so it’s good to get some validation. I was trying to figure out how to cut depth without going above parallel on accident and then I realized I get enough power out the bottom from reflex where I might as well go deeper to not compromise ROM since overall strength isn’t effected. Thanks for letting me know it’s not faulty noob intuition lol

Deep squats seems like a touch and go bench, you get to use the momentum to your advantage. Cutting depth seems like a paused bench where you have to stop and then restart momentum.

I lose a bunch of strength if I don’t go atg, my sticking point is right a parallel so going a bit deeper actually helps me get some extra pop otherwise it feels like doing a pause squat.

I honestly don't think I get a stretch reflex on atg squats. When I go for a max my body wants to cut depth rather than hit atg and when I make sure I go atg on a attempt I fail sometimes. Bouncing off my calfs just hurts and makes me fail worse :/

Wondering if any others have this problem. Sometimes my bench set up feels tight and perfect, other times feels wonky. Idk why I cant consistently get a comfortable one. Maybe its fatigue from the previous excercise throwing me off idk

I'm glad I do oly where I don't have to worry about instagram and tiktok gym twinks bludgeoning each other over not hitting depth by 0.1383 inches. Just squat and shut up. It's not complicated.
