Why the coaching industry is a SCAM

The coaching industry opened people up to new possibilities for creating a more meaningful life but very quickly, it became a multi-level marketing scheme to influence people to invest thousands of dollars to be mentored by coaches that will coach them on how to coach other coaches that want to coach coaches, etc. In this video, I explore the red flags I saw inside the coaching industry and how you can protect yourself from being scammed by being discerning and paying attention to the signs.

Thank you for talking about this. I had a couch that was charging $10, 000 for a 6 months program only 1 video call a month. The program was for "creating more wealth"(starting my own business, fighting procrastination) needless to say I didn't finish the program cause of the steep price (I was only able to afford some just using some inheritance money my father left me) and there was definitely some ignorance of the systemic obstacles I was facing with generational poverty issues. I found out less than month after I cancelled that she she just bought a new Miami apartment on the high end side of town after traveling for 2+ months around the world. I don't think all coaching is bad but you're so right about the lack of transparency in what's being offered for the actual cost.

4 months ago I joined a free marathon organized by 3 kind of famous YouTubers, where in the last week they actually clarified that the “free” marathon was actually organized to sell their coaching program.
What stopped me from joining their program was the lack of ethics in persuading people who where almost homeless to enroll in a 6 month payment plan, apply to get a credit card to pay the 1st installment and figure out how to make money and pay the rest.
Not everyone has something to "sell" in terms of coaching and it looks like this is the new bubble to ruin many.

Absolutely loved every minute of this beautiful share. I loved hearing your take through your own experiences and to me this all shows how amazing of a 'coach' you are. Your transparency and authenticity shines through and I am so happy you shared this to help 'baby coaches' discern how to navigate through the coaching world. It's a scary place out there and I have seen a few things myself. I think some of the points regarding paying someone to give you some sort of magic pill is an absolute scam, I personally struggle with sharing what I can offer as I really dislike the idea of doing what I was taught through the industry. I believe I need to get clear on my offerings from paying more attention to my own strengths and story and move from that POV. Thanks again! xxx

Thank you so much for your perspective. I am in the process of digesting the approaches of the industry myself. I have not witnessed the extremes you talked about but have to figure out for myself how I want to present my offering in a way that feel authentic but not dimming the light to what I deliver. It is a fine line.

Really admire the points you made about systemic oppression, poverty, culture differences and the exploiting people’s insecurities for profit! There’s been many videos about scams in the coaching industry, but I haven’t seen many that touched on these points! Thank you for sharing !

I have long thought this!

I found a “women in business” group on Facebook, and they really talked up how you need engagement, and if you pay them $10, 000 they’ll teach you how to get it, and turn your group into a $30, 000+ a month group…

BUT…

The engagement in their group was largely from people who were coaches within the group, with very little in the way of authentic responses.
I think coaching as an MLM model is extra shady, but also extra hard to crack down on.
An amount has been suggested, a person thought it was worth it and paid it, they don’t feel like what they got was what was advertised, but that is easily twisted around on the client.

Not saying this about all coaches, but coaching as an MLM specifically.

Excellent analysis about limits in mindset and confidence vs living in complex, systemic cultures that no amount of powering through will snap you out of (save a tiny fraction of outliers).

Yes, I've seen these kind of scripts when you have to enhance the pain of a client and give the solution so they would buy more. It's awful :( I also liked your idea about actors who didn't get the job and tried another role 😅
