They do this so ppl don't panic, but you shouldn't round up or round down Richter scale numbers.

Why don't you tell us which fault line the quake occurred on? IT MATTERS -- if it was on the San Andreas, this quake would actually be a great thing because moderate quakes relieve stress on the fault. The more moderate quakes on that fault, the better (as long as people aren't hurt and as long as significant property damage doesn't occur).

in the 90's we had two 7's here in the high desert of California, centered out of Joshua Tree. Our house was under construction. No damage,
No big deal.

I've been learning something over the past few years.... whenever you start getting censored means you are likely on target to something that "big brother" prefers you not go there. I have your answer already. The government wants to take events that are normal, recurring things in California (earthquakes), and make it seem like it's the end of the world and the reason for climate change theory. The young generation has no idea how many earthquakes I felt in the LA area in the 1980s. If anything, they've receded.
