This reminds me of a story when there was a graduation ceremony and one of the white pigeons released didn’t come back to the school. Instead it found its way into my yard where it approached my mother, she would put seeds out for her, and soon the pigeon was a regular and would sit under my moms chair. The white pigeon one day brought back a mate to show my mom. The two pigeons eventually moved on, being married for life.

They're the most gentle loving creatures when kept as pets. My dad's pet pigoen died after he passed away. She looked for him all over the house. When she couldn't find him, she climbed on the bed and slept on his pillow. Few hours later, she was gone. They're loyal to death, literally so.

I raised a beautiful, golden colored pigeon as a child. I was given this new hatchling and no one knew what it was. I fed it, taught it how to fly, and it eventually went outside with a flock and would fly down to me and land on my shoulder. It was such a magical childhood experience.

Pigeons are so chill, they just walk on the street like people
Underrated bird

They’re also not NEARLY as loud as domestic parrots. Their coos are fairly soft and quiet compared to the Demon screeches of macaws, parrots, and parakeets.

Why do they become 10x more adorable when they half close their eyes

Gotta remember: we just abandoned these guys. They've very much got traits of domestication.

I have a pigeon named poe, and he's the sweetest boy. I love him so much- this lad picked up on my panic attacks so anytime I'm crying or upset he hops onto my shoulder and gets all snuggly, it's super cute.

I remember being on my break at work and absent-mindedly began whistling and this beautiful white Pigeon walked up to my bench and simply sat down to listen.

I knew from that day pigeons were really amazing and I'd definitely get one once I get my own place

Caution: don’t train your bird to ring a bell they will do it constantly when they want treats

My uncle rescued 3 injured pigeons and when he tried to release them back into the wild, they refused to leave his side so he decided to adopt them and got them a large, beautiful bird cage which he kept inside his garden house and he'd let one of them sit on his shoulder whenever he was tending to his plants. He loves those pigeons and the pigeons love him.

Worked at a ice cream shop where we made our own waffle cones, and we would save the broken bits in a tub labeled "for Bartholomew"
Bartholomew was a pigeon that came to us in the back alley for help after being attacked by a cat and had all his tail feathers ripped out. He was so patient and sweet, always on time to get his snacks before hiding for the day. He eventually healed enough to make it out on his own, but we would catch glimpses of him stopping by for a quick "coo"

E: can't believe I forgot to clarify I took it upon myself to feed him millet and sunflower after a couple of weeks of visitation, when he made it obvious he was there to stay (for the short run) 🥴

Pigeons actually are very intelligent. They were used in the military during ww1 to send messages to other soldiers and they helped save lives.

Also, pigeons are more domestic than parrots! Back in the 1700s n’ that time pigeons were bread(much like dogs) to be family/inside pets until people started to get tired of them and decided to throw them out in the streets. That’s also why you see so many pigeons in cities, because their whole purpose in life was to be a human’s pet

Edit: also, they were used as carrier pigeons for mail. The postal service put them out of business

When I was a kid, we found a pigeon trapped under a large rock. We took it home and nursed it back to health. Became a wonderful pet that bonded with my dad and spent his time following him everywhere. Sweet, sweet, pet.

Remember people this behaviour is the result of proper care and attention not just sitting in a cage. 👍🥰

Pigeons are like the rats of sky. They're always seen as being gross pests, but in reality they're extremely great pets, both of them being clean, fun, affectionate, smart, adorable, etc. I love seeing "trash" animals getting the love they deserve.
