Mayonnaise is one of my favourite condiments in the kitchen, but every time I eat store bought mayo I cannot stop thinking of everything that goes into making it. Everything from stabilisers, emulsifiers, preservatives, flavour enhancers and who knows what else. It is such a simple recipe with so few ingredients that I cannot comprehend how mayo can become something so incredibly bad for you.

Take a look at all the ingredients I use and how I make my own mayo at home that is tuned into my specific tastes and preferences. You too, can make your delicious, creamy and healthier homemade mayonnaise that gets you one step towards living a more sustainable life while at the same time give you more self sufficiency skills.

Homemade mayonnaise (mayo) ingredient list

- 1 whole, raw egg
- 1 cup sunflower oil (don't use the other seed oils)
- pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon vinegar of your choice
- A squeeze or 2 of lemon, depending on your flavour preferences
- Optional: 1 teaspoon homemade mustard

My daughter makes the yummiest mayo. Also doing this to avoid all the unnecessary additives.

Thank You Craig. I ask my husband to try it out. He loves to try new things in the kitchen.
When we were engaged before we got married, he made the Afrikaans way of making mayonnaise.
1/2 a tin of condensed milk, dry mustard and vinegar to taste.
Put over cooked Potatoes.
YUMMY! I know condensed milk is very sweet. The dry mustard and vinegar off sets the sweetness.
We don make it very often.
He actually made mayonnaise today. Not as nice as his Afrikaans recipe. Spoit for choice 😂😆

Yes, as a matter of fact I have tried to make mayonnaise in the past. I’m still traumatized by the event. I don’t want to even talk about it😢
However, filled with renewed courage I shall again attempt it.

NB the egg must be at room temperature
