Ellen G. White: Prophet or Pretender? | Full Documentary

Who was Ellen G. White? Although regarded as a prophet among Seventh-day Adventists, it’s fair to question whether this woman deserves such a title. After all, the Bible explicitly tells us not to believe every person who claims the gift of prophecy. Rather, John counsels us to “try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world”. This documentary passes the life and writings of Ellen G. White through the seven Biblical tests authorised by God to verify the true, and expose the false. It is these tests that will ultimately determine whether Ellen G. White was a genuine prophet, or a spurious pretender.

I was a born Adventist but never knew about a prophet in my church, never read her books and almost left the church. After getting married I began to read her writing out of curiosity. I am much better Christian today because of reading the Bible and her books. I still have many books of her to read but I thank the Lord for Mrs. Whites writing guiding me back to the Holy Bible and back to God!

I was married to SDA man and became an Adventist since 1989..I became a true believer and myself and 5 children, x4 grandkids are still attending church and keeping God's commandments. I never knew nothing about Ellen until the last 5 years. My husband had stage 4b cancer and was released from hospital as nothing else they can do but spend time with family cos he won't have long to live. We turned to God and was lead to Ellen G White books...no more meat in our household ...strict fruits, nuts, cereals, vegetables. We even juice green vegetables with green apples...my husband was clear from cancer within 6months. I truly believe that her visions are from God. If it wasn't for her vision regarding our health, we wouldn't of known what to do. God bless 🙌 🙏

​No need to listen at all. EGW was not a prophet. It's as clear as a bright shining day. I have my Bible . I don't need the wrong interpretations of other people . Especially when they are deemed "prophets".

God declared clean meat as food, to say meat shouldn't be eaten is contrary to the word of God. There are many false claims of Ellen's that are not mentioned here but even in this pro Ellen white documentary she is shown to contradict the word of God.

EGWhite believes in Christ her saviour and testified of this in her life and books. Her books are the best on the life of Christ. We obey God, not satan. John 14:15;15:10-21

Very well done, Laura! Love the pics of Chris at the end! I am not an Adventist but your presentation, as well as the Sabbath services by your Aussie group, have inspired me to read Ellen’s writings and, as Paul advised, “Prove all things. Hold fast to that which is good.”

Moreover, I like what Ellen herself stated in her “Talk by Mrs. E. G. White in College Library, April 1, 1901”:

How can the Lord bless those who manifest a spirit of “I don’t care”—spirit which leads them to walk contrary to the light which the Lord has given them? But I do not ask you to take my words. Lay Sister White to one side. Do not quote my words again as long as you live until you can obey the Bible. When you make the Bible your food, your meat and your drink, when you make its principles the elements of your character, you will know better how to receive counsel from God. I exalt the precious Word before you today. DO NOT REPEAT WHAT I HAVE SAID, SAYING, “SISTER WHITE SAID THIS, ” AND “SISTER WHITE SAID THAT.” FIND OUT WHAT THE LORD GOD OF ISRAEL SAYS, AND THEN DO WHAT HE COMMANDS. Christ said, “I must work the works of Him that sent Me.” [John 9:4.]

I have been counseled by another religious group that “we do not accept Ellen White as a prophet.” As for me, whether she be a prophet or not, I leave to God. I only know that I have read a very small part of her writings and have found nothing therein contrary to the Word of God in the Bible.

As for her losing a battle in court, I know from personal experience that courts are not always correct. The courts of the Sanhedrin and Pontius Pilate were not correct, nor were the courts that tried Socrates, Joan of Arc, Thomas More, Martin Luther, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, and many modern prisoners exonerated by DNA evidence. If courts were always correct, we would not need appellate courts; their main function is to oversee and, where necessary, correct mistakes in the lower courts. So, whether the court that ruled in Ellen’s case was correct . . . who can tell?

However, the main test of Ellen’s work is whether or not it leads people to God’s Word and His righteousness. The Father alone converts, John 6:44. The results of that “test” will be known only when the Book of Life is opened and those therein can tell their own stories. If Ellen led only one person to God’s Word, would all her writings have been worth it? Jesus says one person’s life is worth more than the entire world. Matthew 16:26.

If Ellen’s writing is of no value to you but of great value to another, should you block the one who would profit from her teachings? If a certain teaching of hers does not suit you, why not just let it alone? Let others come to their own conclusion about such writing. Who knows? Perhaps your restraint may have allowed another soul to find their way to God’s Word through Ellen’s writings. Jesus was not accepted by some close to him.

But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, and among his own kinsmen, and in his own house.” Mark 6:4.

Should we be surprised that Ellen was not well received by many of her own?

False Prophets lead people away from GOD and away from the BIBLE. 35 years ago I came across EW books.
her writings lead me to JESUS and the BIBLE.

Her writing is fictional. There is no such thing as lesser light. Every word of God is to the same standard. If God spoke to her then her writings must be added in the Bible. But the Bible say it's blasphemy to add to the Bible therefore making her and all like her lairs.

This is great. I am a member of Baha’i community. I grew up in Kenya. During high school, I read the books of Ellen White. The message in those books gave me direction in life, kept me from drinking, smoking & following other dangerous paths that young people get into. Supernatural and magic to many looks the same but in close investigation the difference between the two becomes clear .Most of Nostradanamus predictions were fulfilled but still they were not from God.
