Animals are like people in that they come with their own unique personalities. My current cat is entirely different from my first cat. My current cat wants love and cuddles on her terms and likes a quiet life. My first cat was always up for cuddles and loved to play and ambush people.

You're right!! Cats have unique personalities, and it's important to respect their boundaries to earn their trust and affection!

It is true. We adopted our cat when she was 7 years old so I didn't know what to expect. I wanted a clingy cat like Layla so I'd pick her up, constantly, eventhough that wasn't her personality. She would hiss at me. She's my first pet ever so it took me some time to learn that my behaviour was selfish, as not all cats are the same. Now, I give her space and she comes to me on her own. She went from anxious and aggressive to loveable and happy. She didn't like me, at the beginning, and, you're right, it was entirely my fault. I'm so glad me and little one are best friends now ☺

Layla's definitely a sweetie.
Others may not be so lucky. I've had "mean" cats who grew up on the street, suffered trauma, or had incurable medical conditions. Cats like that are hard to find homes for, but deserve a better chance as much as anyone. If you're helping a cat build trust in a scary world, you have my admiration ❤ The current "meanness" of your cat is not your fault.

Cats, just like people, have different personalities. It does help if we are loving and respectful!!❤😂❤😂❤

Seeing comments about how some cats are just naturally mean and then seeing them talk about how they were previously abused or just have certain boundaries like my guy you are proving his point. Even if a cat wasn’t mistreated prior they’re still gonna have boundaries and if you try to ignore them of course they’re gonna act mean, anyone would if their boundaries were ignored

I adopted my cat when she was around 6 months old and she's never been the sweetie type. She's got more of a sassy personality with ribbons of sweetness. She loves to attack my feet after I shower but will snuggle with me in the winter (sometimes even under the covers). Also, she loves to poof her tail. She has different levels of poof based on her moods and it's adorable

I got my cat when he was 5 months. He was a timid thing. He still is timid, but he is also a clingy guy.

Ive always told people that you treat people with the same respect and kindness you expect back, the same goes two-fold for animals

100%. I have 2 cats. The first bonded with me instantly. I expected the same with the second, but she was scared. She stayed in the same chair all the time with her head down looking sad. I realized I had to put in the work. I started giving her quick pets when I walked by. Slowly I paid a little more attention as I went. One day about a month after I adopted her she jumped down from that chair, jumped on my chest as I laid on the couch and started rubbing noses with me. It's been love ever since.

Cats are so fascinating to me. Ive loved them since i was little, and i remember when i was around 5 there was a feral cat that lived outside my grandparents house. They couldn’t adopt her, due to being allergic, but id sit outside and play with her. She didn’t like being geld, especially by other people, but she didn’t fuss when little me held her despite not knowing how to hold a cat. I think they have a good sense of how to treat children compared to older people. Another cat i had was always one to play rough, but he understood not to do that with my younger sibling.

I also think cats are a great judge of people. If your cat can’t stand someone, sometimes you might want to put a little distance. Of course this may not be for everyone but its been true in my personal life. Multiple times, ive had bad and manipulative friends and just didn’t realize it at the time, but my cat hated them. Then, those ’friendships’ crashed and burned. Trust your cats if they don’t like the vibe.

Different cats have different personalities no matter how they raised. My sister has two cats that are siblings. Pirate always looks like she’s alway having a bad trip and startles easy. Peppe is a lovable asshole. Very affectionate one sec very violent the next. And my sister is a super soft and nice pet mom and real mom, very much so gentle parent.

I think most people just dont put in effort to be loving from the beginning, AND respecting their boundaries. also, it helps to have them since birth or since they were young
