Ghandhi naively believed that then Japanese would 'respect' Indian sovereignty. If the British had done what he wanted, it is a certainty the Japanese would have swarmed into India, the Kempe Tai. [Japanese military police/pseudo-Gestapo] would have arrested him...and probably executed him. And the Indians would find out that there were worse conquerors than the British.

There were 300 Indian soldiers there, But there were also Canadian, Belgium, and Dutch not to mention the Irish that were in the British army,
I don't remember them being represented and I can't remember them bitching about it either.

As an Indian, I don’t feel that our troops were disrespected. There were far greater contributions at Dunkirk by Belgian and French soldiers who also got little to no screentime.

No one got disrespected because the movie was focused on the British evacuations themselves and not the battle of Dunkirk as a whole

You will never be able to include every minority, no matter how big a contribution, into a interesting 2 hour movie. It’s meant to be entertainment, not meant for political points

Lol if that's the case they should be showing the sacrifices of the thousands of White British Soldiers who fought as Arras holding back Rommel.

This is like Spike Lee who criticized "Flags of our fathers" for not focusing on African American soldiers at Iwo Jima...

Sure, African Americans were there, and i would totally watch that movie, but "flags of our fathers" was more about the raising of the American flag on mount Surabatchi. It makes sense to me that "flags of our fathers" didn't really have much to do with the African American heroes that did serve at Iwo Jima. Once again (movie studios take note) i would totally watch a movie about African American soldiers at Iwo Jima.

Fyi there were 800 African American logistics soldiers at Iwo Jima for anyone that wanted to know. Similar to the numbers of Indian soldiers at Dunkirk

No offense but 300 mule handlers out of like 300, 000 isn’t a very big role I don’t remember a lot of Benelux or Irish soldiers in the movie either despite there being plenty

Gandhi was a racist and anti-Semite so that makes sense

Well the evacuation scenes are literally a couple of hundred extras on a beach when in reality those beaches would have had thousands of men, if Nolan decided to use cgi I’m sure there could have been more representation. Even the french soldiers in the film hardly got the proper recognition they deserved for holding the Germans back.

Dunkirk could barely show the British army, let alone every minor group there.
The director refused to use cgi, so the small number of extras there made the beaches look practically empty

Hey if they want more representation they can make thier own movie

On Dunkirk they also don’t show that french soldiers saved the English and helped them to evacuate

It should be noted that the All-India Muslim League, the second largest party, supported the British effort during both wars yet rarely get mentioned because most people assume that Gandhi was leader of all Indians, he was not.

More Indians served in the SS than at Dunkirk

No ww2 movie portrays Italians or Romanians that switched sides in 1943-1944 and fought bravely alongside the allies all over Europe, yet nobody is
