"the soundtrack was louder than the bombardment." Sounds about right.

Nolan just emerges from his cave every 5 years, releases a film that destroys the box office then disappears again.

The veterans did have one complaint the fact that the beach wasn't cluttered enough in real life there was tons of equipment on that beach tanks trucks wagons trailers tents anti-tank guns anti-air guns all sorts of stuff which I feel like the movie didn't really capture

You may not realize it, but the sound of the ticking clock is a character in the movie. When the British are under threat, the clock ticks faster. When they are not under threat, the clock ticks slower.

In every single one of Christopher nolan's movie, the soundtrack being louder than the dialogue has always been an issue.

Great grandad Frank was at Dunkirk. They shot his best friend out of a tree right next to him when the Germans finally pushed. Needless to say he was at the rear with the french holding the Germans, survived, was sent to Poland and lived in a POW camp until 1945, made it back to Britain in 1946, to meet his 6 year old son Stanley for the first time, who then went to serve doing sneaky squirrel shit at the Berlin wall.

Grandad Stan is the nicest guy ever despite having survived the Battle of Britain and having witnessed the horrors of Communism in East Germany.

Only film I've cried at. The scene on the train reading Churchill's speech

To a certain level accurat. The beaches and the city were not empty like that. The remnants of the BEF and several French Divisions were still within the City, and muc of their equipment. Thousands of scared civilians.

The director hates CGI, but i think CGI would have been necessary

Im astonished that this was their comment. The beach rescue scene had like 5k soldiers on it, when in reality, over 300k were present! They didnt even CGI them in!!!

The Dunkirk scenes in the movie Atonement are heartbreaking.

Yeah, the voiceover said "expensive camera", the written words on the screen say "offensive camera"😖

Tom Hardy should have won an Oscar for his taut and spare performance in this film. He was very economical in his portrayal but it left a lasting impression.

It was nice to have had a WWII movie made about Great Britain for a change

Yet they didn't criticize the lack of the 50, 000 men who protected them. I'm happy that they're survivors of Dunkirk but I'm mad that the rear guard who fought for like 5 days against the superior German forces to ensure those 400, 000 British and French soldiers got to England. Yeah people don't realize that there's some documentaries but that's never been in a movie. The movie was okay but that's the part that pissed me off. You had 50, 000 people risking their lives to ensure 400, 000 people didn't die at the hands of the Nazis.
