A often forgotten fact, Hitler actually issued a pause order to the German troops to allow the crossing, in hope to negotiate for peace with the Brit.

Hitler ordered Guderians Panzer Corp to halt to allow the infantry to catch up. Guderian had advanced so quickly that it created a large salient and this caused Hitler to second guess as he believed it would allow for a counterattack by allied forces near Belgium (this was impossible at this point). Herman Goering then convinced Hitler to let the Luftwaffe take care of the rest. Guderian and Rundsedt were baffled and furious as if Hitler wouldn't have given the order they surely would have captured the BEF and immobilized England. It was one of the many mistakes that cost Hitler the war.

Looking at all those soldiers in the picture, each one of them was their own main character with goals and aspirations. Not all of them made it alive but all of them were heroes who fought for a purpose. respect and remember the soldiers and the hardships they went through because we take for granted what they gave us.

the only reason the allies pulled out of Dunkirk so successfully is because hitler saw the brits as the only people close to the Germans and thought if he dont attack them britain would swing on their side eventually he thought the only reason britain is against germany were the royal Family and that the British people want to fight with germany not against germany

I remember one of my friends had a grandpa who fought at Dunkirk, I talked to him once and he said that the boat he was on was basically a wooden, recreational fishing boat and as they were sailing out a French orphan ran into the water and boarded the boat they were on to escape the death camps (the orphan was Jewish).

Guderian wanted to advance with his Panzer army and wipe out the British army in Dundalk but Goering convinced Hitler that his Luftwaffe could do the job instead. So Guderian was ordered to stand down; probably saving the soldiers from an almost certain slaughter.
