Passengers on a Lufthansa flight to Los Angeles went through a scary 20 minutes when their plane tried to land at the city's airport on Tuesday. A live stream recorded the 'Touch and Go' landing of the Boeing 747 passenger jet, which touched down so roughly that the landing had to be abandoned. The plane headed back into the sky and landed smoothly and safely about a quarter of an hour later. There was no information about the cause of what a commentator called 'the roughest landing ever caught' by the streaming service.

“Roughest landing ever” - Ryan Air- “Hold my Guinness”

"Any landing that you can walk away from is a good landing".

Ah! Designed and built back when Boeing was Boeing!

I'm an aircraft mechanic and that aircraft is built for so much more of a difficult impact. The hydraulics are designed to withstand 7 to 8 times the aircraft weight at landing speed. Pilot Error happens. You can't fly thousands every day without a few "Whoops, didn't mean for that to happen"s

I'm more impressed how fast the pilots reacted. Between the first touch down and the go around are like 4 seconds. Also, I find it also always quite impressive how fast the engines are able to provide the necessary thrust to get that bird back into the air.

Terrible news reporting DW! As a pilot I can tell you that this happens many times, everyday, all around the world. STOP scaring the average person that doesn't know better. The folks on board were NOT in danger, the pilot made a very small miscalculation, the plane absorbed it no worries, and the plane was rigourously checked for damage before next takeoff.

Amazing how right after the landing the plane started flapping its wings frantically to take off again.

Wow, the number of pilots and air craft engineers on this site is amazing.

Ridiculous. Clickbait rather than a harrowing event. This is nothing.

There's much harder landings on YouTube 😊

yeah, haven't been flying much lately, but back in the 70's every plane i was on bounced a couple of times when landing . and we all clapped b/c we were so relieved we were still alive ...

Just for reference, the pilot was a trainee and this was a check flight. So he may not have been as experienced in the position as other Boeing 747 pilots. Poor guy having to deal with the media slamming on him, hopefully he gets another chance. Lufthansa pilots very skilled and this was unfortunately just one of those times where he made a mistake, it happens to all of us. Pilots are held to high standards and this pilot never put the people in any danger, he just had a rough touchdown. Like another comment said here, these aircraft are designed to handle a LOT more than just a very rough landing. Everything was fine here and there was no risk of an emergency. :)

He is probably a former Navy pilot and thought he was trying to do a trap rather than a landing😂

Actually it looks like a successful Go Around following a hard touchdown while not allowing the nose gear to be damaged by avoiding repeat “porpoising” or pilot-induced oscillations. Better to go around that trying to commit to an unstable touchdown.

That's called pilot induced overtime.

That is not a rough landing. You can see a go around was initiated at the top of the bounce (t 13s), likely saving the plane from a nose first touchdown. That is a good response. As for the first touchdown, it could be a late flair, or air dynamics suddenly dropped the plane and there was no time to respond. In either case, that's a tough plane built for worse.

It was a test landing 🛬🤣🤣 just to try how tough the suspension is 🤣

This should not have made the news. Sorry seen way harder ones and not news worthy

Well this is definitely not the “roughest ever” but it’s good that the pilots made the decision to go around and performed a smooth landing on their second try 😊
