About the G3 1907 (GOL) accident: I was a company employee at the time and I was working that day. After the day my father died, that 09/29/2006 was the worst day of my life... The accident was caused by the pilots of the Embraer Legacy, who were flying on the same airway as the PR-GTD. However, they should have been at flight level 360, but they were at flight level 370. Furthermore, in that Amazonian region, radar coverage is still poor and Brazil suffered from the lack of sufficient controllers to command so many planes. That day I lost 155 friends (including the plane, which had arrived from the Boeing factory about 15 days before the accident)...

That last crash on this list has always fascinated me when it came to mid-air collisions. The smaller jet barely had a scratch on it, with only the wing tip missing. If I remember correctly, that same wing tip sliced through the larger jet's wing like a knife and it broke apart from the speed and g-forces before it hit the ground.

Very famous crash. The pilots panicked when a pito tube was briefly disabled by ice. They should have flown the plane as normal. But a co pilot pulled back the stick, fatally stalling the aircraft. Whilst the captain was taking a break. Completely unnecessary crash into the sea. This is a reconstruction.

At the speeds of two aircraft heading towards one another, you could be staring forward and you might not see each other. That's the reason for the 1000 feet variation flying difference in height on flying routes.

That's the first indication that I've come across that the flight crew of the GOL were looking at photographs prior to the collision. We do tend to relax during cruise but it's not typical for both pilots to have their heads down for an extended period.
