Dude was really hurt when the USSR collapsed. It broke him. He went from having hope and a belief in a future that would eventually be good into just feeling utterly hopeless and he's never had his hope restored since.

Yeah its very true, america sucks, and the modern world in general is shit as hell. But nothing is ever all bad, theres still beauty to find in the chaos of modern consumerism. War sucks, but no matter what is destroyed, everything will always have existed as it did, nothing can change history. Creation and destruction work in tandem, and nothing will ever be perfect or permanent. Miyazaki is not as cosmically coherent as I once imagined, he is tarrying around in his own angst and obssessed with other people. He is so old now, how does he not understand that the world is a manifold of textures, theres good hues and bad hues to find in everything. To bitterly obssess over such petty crap is childish in the worst way, just get a grasp of the full picture and thats all you need to find peace with it all. It made a lot of sense to me when I found out that he only draws his stuff, he doesnt do any writing at all. Honestly anyone can get good at drawing fantastical stuff without having a directed meaning or message behind it. Drawing things is very different to writing things. I feel that the writers of these movies need way more commemoration. It makes sense to me that he only draws things and then enforces others to create a screenplay from it. I think the acclaim he received from his work just closed his mind off even further, which is why he never truly grew up and has weird hangups about "children having power" or whatever dude enjoy your hobby a bit and listen to the earth, its breathing loudly and youre stealing that fact to make into your drawings so you can have your tada moment, while the earths breathe is against the back of your neck and youre ignoring it just so you can get your own product made

I would disagree with some of his views and I have seen some of his movies and modern technology has made the world more connected then in the past and with the internet given us unlimited access to information
