And Christian Bale returns in Studio Ghibli's latest installment "The Boy and the Heron". He'll be playing as Shoichi Maki, the titular boy's father. The english dubbed version will be released in North America December 8th

Crazy thing I just Christian Bale comes back to voice the father in the new Studio Ghibli movie, The Boy and the Heron. As it turns out, the Japanese voice actor for Howl, Takuya Kimura, ALSO came back to voice the father in the new movie. So in multiple languages, they managed to bring back the same voice actors which was Studio Ghibli's request. Just so amazing!

Fun fact - In the book howl is welsh and has a welsh accent, Christian bale who is in fact welsh used an American accent 😅

Studio Ghibli makes sure their English dubs are on POINT. That's thanks to Hayao Miyazaki and Disney hiring vetted actors with lots of experience.

I love most ghibli English dubs, especially Howls. The “That’s my girl” always makes wanna giggle and kick my feet and all that. His voice is just so rich and calming and everything about Howl’s is super comforting.

The studios movie Ponyo literally has Betty White, Liam Neeson, Matt Damon, Tina Fey and Kate Blanchette. I just think that line up is crazy

One of the best things of ghibli movies is that regardless of the VA, they always keep this ghibli voice. You know that calm, elaborate, full of emotion, but with great diction still. Sounds like an asmr. Like any VA, whether the superstars in hollywood or the smallest roles in the movie, has kept this identity in their voice. now ghibli is not only visually aesthetic, but asmr as well

Bale doesn't play humble characters because he wants to but because he's like that. He deserved that lead role.

Ghibli dubs are interesting considering a lot of them were handled by disney, and loved to give them star studded casts. Even so, it's interesting to pick out and learn that some actors you wouldn't expect to voice act for anime had roles. Like Patrick Stewart in Nausica, and while Mark Hamil is a well known voice actor, I don't hear him in anime very often (Mark was in lapuda)
