Vampire Bats

It's the time of year for vampires! Vampire bats that is! It is a common misconception that vampire bats suck blood. They actually cut a tiny slit in an animal’s skin with their razor-sharp front teeth and lap up the blood. Chemicals in the bat’s saliva prevent clotting so the blood flows freely until it has had its fill, which is generally less than an ounce.

A new study came out about vampire bats showing that they convert the amino acids in the blood they consume straight into energy, which is part of why they are less likely do develop fat deposits.

Their pace and manner of walking heavily reminds me of certain insects, like stink bugs. It's really odd looking but super neat. What's hilarious though is that if these guys want to move along the ground faster they start hopping instead.

They walk how I imagine a Pterosaur would walk. A little creepy, but hey, if you evolved to fly but figured out a way to walk on the ground, you'd look kind of weird, too.

I love how all three of them just look like theyre on the lookout for enemies trying to sneak attack them when they walk. They look like theyve got their guards up looking from side to side, kinda strafing. Being extra cautious like their sweeping a mine field lol
