Interesting that they don't mention the fact that the video displays two different bat species: Vampyrum Spectrum (the first bat) which is actually known to hunt and kill small mammals and other bats and the common vampire bat (the ones feeding off of the pigs) which lives entirely off of blood...

There's only three species of vampire bats, and only one of those feeds on mammal blood. Even then, it is EXTREMELY rare that it would even go near a human for food. Also (because it's fun fact Friday), they're big fans of reciprocal altruism. :) If a vampire bat can't feed one night, they can't survive very long. One of their roost mates will regurgitate blood for the hungry one so they'll survive. So...they're really not bad.

Some of you are incorrect. They already did a study and confirmed that vampire bats go for blood. Humans are mammals too and they had a guy sit in a chair and fall asleep near a cave of these bats. One of the bats circles the guys chair a few times (probably since it hadn't seen a human) and it crawled up the leg of the chair to the guys finger. It waited a couple of seconds and then bit the dude and started sucking his blood. The guy said the bite was barely strong enough to wake him.

I saw a similar documentary about vampires, there was a part near the end where the host turned into a vampire.

So these guys aren't actually that deadly. Yes some will take blood from humans too, but forget about being sucked dry as these guys are tiny. Now while the bats themselves are harmless, they, like many other mammals, can carry rabies. Now when a dog bites us, we're usually aware, and it's off to the doctor. But the bat's teeth are like a surgical scalpel, the cut is so clean that we don't feel it. No pain, no rabies shot.

Bats don't even suck blood, they make an incision and lap up the blood with their tongues.
Gross but true.

Vampire bats rarely go after humans.  They'll do it if they are the only available food source :/

One fact they left out is that the process is a lot less painful then it would seem due to the saliva they inject working as a mild anaesthetic more so to help keep the prey asleep, but hey.

"A taste before the peccary wakes up."
On another documentary said they inject this chemical that keeps the blood flowing and they'll be able to feast silently and undetected.
