This is true!!! I struggle forever to get one clean pull up. Started doing negatives instead for a good while and now I can knock out 4 clean pull ups and plan to make that number grow.

Took me 2 years of consistent lifting and targeted pull-up training (like negatives) to get that first pull up. So yeah some of us just need to keep going like we're going and build that strength for a while. Took me a year to be able to even hang from the bar long enough to do one negative. So if there's someone struggling as well, just keep building that overall upper body strength and look at these as a way to supplement that training. The reality is that if you have more lower body mass and just not enough upper body strength to pull yourself up, this is not magically fixing that. And quite honestly i found negatives completely useless and probably why i spent so long struggling. Band-assisted pull-ups and dead hangs got me much more progress.

I'm obese and if I just up there I go down like a lead balloon. Working in it but damn, I don't mind if I can't get my first pull up yet. I know I'll get there. I'm trying to stay consistent with going 4x a week, it's been ages since I've lifted consistently, I'm weak as hell but it's good to be back.

Bold of you to assume I can even jump up in the first place 😂. I current just hang from the bar as long as possible. I cracked 10 seconds the other day 🤸‍♂️

I've been doing this for a couple months in my garage lol, trust me, IT WORKS. I can do a pull up now👍 (finally)

I was doing that at the gym and got shamed into starting to do pull ups with band. I hate it because I feel like I'm not doing anything even though it's still challenging, but I hated when a dude came up to me to ask why I was doing that and that I should do band. Wish I was in a less judgemental place.

Id really really recommend active arch hangs instead of negatives first. At least like as a warm up. Its really good for learn what muscles need to activate and how the scapulae need to move to generate maximum muscle engagement.

These really really helped me with correcting my pullup form. After that, negatives have been super effective.

Love the accent.

I've gone from no pullups to 10 pullups in about 8 months. The nice part is that the last 4-5 pullups have all been at the current weight of about 186-189.
