Biggest Benefit of Intermittent Fasting - Weight Loss or Autophagy? – Dr. Berg

Dr. Berg talks about a new concept called AUTOPHAGY. This is a condition whereby your cells are recycling damaged cell parts and getting rid of pathogenic microbes (mold, viruses, fungus, bacteria, and candida). Autophagy is the ultimate anti-aging strategy. Each cell has mini-garbage disposals, called lysosomes. These clear out the trash and send the particles to the liver for either fuel or making NEW parts.

How to stimulate:
1. Intermittent fasting and fasting
2. Olive oil
3. Exercise (aerobic)
4. Sulforaphane (cruciferous vegetables)
5. Vitamin D3
6. Vitamin B3
7. Phytonutrients in coffee
8. Green tea

Insulin and insulin resistance inhibits this process. There is also some research on autophagy and anti-aging

Intermittent fasting and long term fasting could destroy the anti-aging beauty cream industry, if only people knew...

I started doing intermittent fasting without knowing all the science. It just made sense.

Growing younger is nice. And it doesn't cost anything.

That is the real problem. Who will benefit? Not big business. Only the people.

I started Intermittent Fasting 2 1/2 months ago and lost a total of 30 pounds. So many people tell me I look younger, my wife keeps saying my skin looks way more healthy, now it makes sense. Thanks Dr Berg for all of your videos. I started eating 2 meals doing 16:8 but the lowered to 20:4. I lost 17 pounds in 30 days. On the 5th week I started eating One Meal A Day (OMAD) I have been eating only once a day for 6 weeks now. I started at 176 in July 15 and I am now at 147. I posted a video a week ago on my transformation.

SubhanAllah, that's what we've been told to do every month of Ramadan as Muslims, God is the most wise. I love fasting, you just feel better in so many ways.
Thanks for this video, very informative!

For two years I have hip arthritis, pain scale of 8 esp. in the morning. Inspite of PT exercises and 3 capsule Genacol daily, no improvement, getting worst . Last year December started IF. After 4 days of 16:8 of IF, the pain was reduced to 3, 2, 1 then none. Im in my 2nd mth now. Now I can pull my cross legs towards my chest.

I remember fasting when I was younger and never getting sick. I`m going in that path once again. I have been reading a lot about this topic and there are just so many great reason to fast.

I stumbled upon IF on accident. I didn't even realize I was doing it. I was trying to save money so I would skip breakfast because I didn't really have an appetite in the morning, just a cup or two of coffee, then buy a big lunch and eat half of it for lunch and half for dinner. I didn't snack in between but it just became routine for me. I didn't have a car but would take public transit, but I decided to take the train to work, and just walk home from work to save money (about 35 min walk). I didn't realize what was happening to my body but I I could feel the difference in my clothes...in just a month or two I had lost 15 pounds, but I had more energy than I had in years. I suffer from insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. When I found out about IF later on I'd realized that I was doing it unknowingly. But yes, it works. I read that it isn't healthy for women long term though so I don't know if I should keep doing it.

I'm 63 years old and I have changed my diet and the way I exercise by following your advice. The only issues that I have been experiencing are some bloating it doesn't happen often, only when I eat certain greens. I haven't had any issues with just one meal on intermittent fasting 24 + hours. I just want to say thanks for the info you provide. A couple of weeks ago I finally got my weight down to 190 from 208 lbs and I keep hearing information about having a cheat day to celebrate, but as I was searching for more info that day I ran into your video where you made a remark something about "who said you can have a cheat day" so I been staying true to the keto diet. I've changed my bike riding routine at home, 1 min. intense ride, tension level @ 8 which is the highest I can go, a shot of lemon water and 3 + min to rest then back on the bike. I used to just ride for 20-30 minutes with other Resistant exercises. But the way I'm doing it now I can only do about 11 reps. After my 3 min rest from my last ride, I check my blood pressure and pulse 115/77 pulse 96, that was yesterday morning, today I chose to do all my resistant strain burn exercises with 3 min rest after BP=127/83 and Pulse was 84. After waiting 1/2 hour I checked my Glucose and Ketones levels, 6:07 am Glucose= 30 and Ketones =3.1, compared to Glucose and Ketone check at 4:27 am this morning Glucose= 99 and ketones =3.4. I feel better physically and mentally and I am now at 185 lbs. My dietician put me on a Mediterranean diet and every time I ate I would get sleepy real quick within 15 mins or so. That's also how I can know on my keto diet if my carb intake is too much because my eyes want to close in sleep. Most of the time now I am finding the right balance of carbs, proteins, and fat. People have been trying to discourage me because they think I'm playing with fire, but every day I am reminded by what you've said, "who said you can take a cheat day." The other plus is I have been charting all my meals, exercise, etc. One thing I would appreciate would be more info on Bentonite clay and how to use it internally and externally. Best Regards and Thank You for your help.

I've been eating one meal a day for almost 8 years now. I allow myself a 2 hour window but I'm usually finished within an hour. I'm never hungry and always full of energy, I'll never go back to to the standard of three meals a day.

I believe IF restored my health. I am fan for life now. if I mess up or cheat my body really feels it, but if i stick to it i feel great most of the time and I am not thinking about food at all, no more blood sugar spikes the biggest benefit for me. Its stabilised my blood sugar cravings with additional health benefits and you save money on food! (What more would you want lol)
