To save you time sleep is good between 7, 8, or 9 hours. This also includes time taken to excercise proper eating habits and spending time under the sun when you are awake

More and more I’m hearing of research that there are 3 types of sprouts sleepers. Majority needs 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Small percentage of people are ‘short sleepers’ needing only 4-6 hours of sleep. The other small percentage are ‘long sleepers’ who need anywhere from 9-12 hours. If someone is a ‘long sleeper’ and constantly sleeping 7-8 hours with issues; this will leave them chronically sleep deprived. Adequate sleep does not contribute to depression; sleep deprivation contributes to depression. I honestly feel however much sleep you need to wake up refreshed and charged for the day naturally, that that is how much sleep you need. I’ve been working on my sleep for years and it has taken me a long time to realize that I may very well be long sleeper. I feel I need at least 9 hours sleep to feel refreshed. That’s not considering ‘sleep opportunity’ which is the amount of time it takes to fall asleep. I need about 9 hours and 45 minutes of sleep opportunity to hit my need for 9 hours ’actual sleep’. I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea about 7 months ago and my need for sleep, even though dramatically better, still seems to linger at 9 hours. Don’t pride yourself in how little sleep you get if it’s hurting you; that sleep deprivation comes at a great cost to your health. Sending you all love and light.

I’ve found that when is you sleep is as important as duration. You can get 8 hours but if you’re going to bed at 4 and waking up late you’re not going to faring any better. During covid I developed a kind of ADD and depression from messing with my sleep cycles. I think circadian rhythms and sun cycles are closely related. There’s an interesting HUBERMAN podcast that gets into this in detail if anyone is interested.

Yep, it's one of my typical problems. I always sleep 10 hours in a day but can't stay focus on work. It feels really sucks like invisible stone on my head. I try to wake up earlier but it actually doesn't help much.

She's right on the money. Situational sleep needs to be accounted for. If you're in the gym 7 days a week, and working a full time labor-intensive job, it wouldn't hurt to get an extra 1-1.5 hours of sleep above the recommended. That was just my own example of a more fatigued state.

I once went two weeks, with only two hours of sleep each night. I felt like I was going to drop dead, finally I got to sleep. I slept for 16 hours straight, didn’t move a muscle, the couch under me was saturated with sweat. And I felt worse than before I went to sleep.

I have to be at work by 530am Monday through Thursday .I work 12 to 15 hour days with Friday off.On Friday I'll sleep till noon. Its great and hasn't affected me one bit.All the other days I sleep 6 hours a night at the most. Some can say it's not good but I eat healthy and am a running addict.I take care of myself.I sleep late on the weekends as well. Its honestly a great pleasure to sleep late after a very hard week of work.

I really don't quite understand is hypersomnia a disease or it's just an indication that the body is tired ???just ticking one box --- excessive sleeping but not all the other symptoms such as feeling foggy or memory problems --+not sure whether to consult a GP or not : for excessive sleeping + excessive yawning 🤔🤔

I don’t know why but I’ve always required at least 10-11 hours of sleep. If I get 8 I will fall asleep mid-day for 2 hours, or sleept 13-14 hours the next day. Once I quit trying to sleep less I lost a ton of weight & feel better… but who knows, maybe I’m doing something wrong still

What about sleeping too much at different hours of the day? i.e. watching TV all day and falling asleep from time to time.
