maybe it becomes clearer to explain the difference - people forget these days - about passage and basic is passage is a trot movement being the longest time in the air with cadence , longer than extended trot, and piaff is the the shortest time and so it must be quicker but mostly we see nowadays holding back the passage movement to one place and they think its piaff but horses are not natural then being raped into a not true energetic piaff loosing self carriage and this looks awful pressed into something i dont know what ...passage has to be full of swinging through the body and horses show their cadence and pride they are physically born with, even the feeling of the rider is different, in passage you are so straight in your upper body with your stomach muscles only letting be weight fallin from up to down only your buffering supple haunches dont disturb horses swinging back casuse your legs are hanging in the stirrups nearly for nothing but in piaff you relaxe more your upper body....as master Kottas -Heldenberg easily explained : for more bigger movement you need more seat but for more quicker movement use more leg true educated passage you can give reins but horse stays in self carriage ..and if riders or judges would think about the difference they would see that the transition form into piaff to passage or otherwise is more difficult to ride than we see nowadays raping a passage to piaff cause of the same rythm is easier to ride, smile is a bit quicker in horses legs but they forget is rythm even if its a quicker rythm or a slower rythm but the transition makes the true master then !!! come from passage slower rythm into a piaff quicker rythm but dont loose the rythm of regularity it - smile
