We NEED To Talk About Bethesda's Future...

After many requests following my review of Shattered Space, we're sitting down to talk about the future of Bethesda. Many, but not all, are questioning their ability to deliver a quality game and the timing couldn't be worse with Elder Scrolls VI being next in line. There's no denying the magic of an Elder Scrolls game, but how deep do Bethesda's issues run and is it time to worry about the next entry in the franchise?

Please Bethesda, quality over quantity. We don't care if your map for ES6 is x16 times the size of Skyrim but WHAT is on it and how immersive it is.

It's actually crazy, ES6 was announced before I met my wife. This year was our 5 year wedding anniversary and I feel like I've known her my whole life.

What Bethesda desperately need is talented and experienced dedicated writers to fill the world with content. The more accomplished these writers are the better.

As long as Emil Pagliarulo is in charge of the writing and design decisions at Bethesda my hype to new Bethesda game is very tempered automatically.

A big reason I’m concerned for ES6 (that I rarely ever see mentioned) is that I don’t think BGS is willing to take risks when it comes to the lore or settings anymore. The thing that sets elder scrolls apart from other fantasy settings is the batshit crazy/convoluted lore and the fantastical environments. I think that media companies as a whole are not willing to take creative risks which is why we have so many reboots, remakes, and recycled material/mechanics. As greats as Skyrim is, BGS has slowly dulled down their lore since Morrowind and I fear that will continue.

The massive problem here is that they clearly are not willing to hear real constructive criticism. These reviews aren’t bad because people hate Bethesda they are bad because people care about Bethesdas worlds and do not want to see them continue down this path.

I just hope to be alive when ES VI comes out. I am already 54, and was 41 when Skyrim launched.

Fallout London uses the Creation Engine and it’s great. It’s about what you make with it.

I don't want to play the same game for 10 years. I want new, reasonably sized entries every few years. I want to see new, creative experiences made by devs starting from scratch and crafting the game they want from the ground up, rather than crammed-in expansions adding to an ever-expanding tech debt in an aging game. It's a shame we will fewer worlds and characters because of this obsession with bloated games with too much longevity for their own good.

I first played Skyrim when I was 10 I’m 22 right now I’ve been waiting for the next elder scrolls for over half of my life that is ridiculous and when they made the trailer in 2018 I was under the assumption oh they’re actually making it now AND ITS 2024 and they apparently just started making it and from a customers perspective (I don’t even want to call myself a fan anymore) is absolutely disgusting

I agree with you that we're seeing a lot of consequences from bad design decisions. The point I disagree is putting faith in BGS. We're seeing a lot of doubtful design decisions, game after game, and from my gamer perspective, I see BGS trying to make that Skyrim experience translated into other universes, and failing on each try they do. And that's the ugly thing I really try not to believe, but it's becoming more and more harder to negate: BGS don't know what they've done to make Skyrim great. And so, they do not know how to make those games after to be as enjoyable as Skyrim was. It's pretty difficult to put some faith at this point.

100% worried about ES6. Lost all faith in Behesda.

I never understood why Starfield didn't have more to do with War and conflict, were just in this period of relative peace. No real faction loyalty choices. No way to join and go to war against another faction. And with a name like "Shattered Space" you would of thought before release, that maybe the Colony Wars return, or maybe House Varuun attempt another Crusade. way better story alternatives then what we got imo.

My brother in Christ, they said the same thing about Starfield being the game they’ve wanted to make for years. Todd even tried to sell us on the “it’s the game I’ve wanted to make since I was a little kid” story.

They’re going to disappoint you.

I'm personally hoping for a return to the Oblivion "vibe" a return to that feeling of grand adventure and quality content. That of course is in my opinion.

Beth is tired. They're a zombie studio, shuffling along making noises that sound familiar, but it's not alive.

To me its simple

We need “traditional” exploration, we need a more cinematic approach in certain scenes and animations and they absolutely need better writers.

If they are happy just doing the same things from until now again they wont be award contenders anymore.

Bethesda would do well to have everyone on staff play Red Dead Redemption 2. Then try to beat that game's open world experience. Get NPCs to interact better. No loading screens. Write a script with 2015 sensibilities.

I'm concerned for ES6... I want it to be good... But ever since Fallout 4... Bethesda has just been taking L, after L, after L and Starfield and Shattered Space isn't helping my concerns

I'm not concerned with ES6. I've lost interest in it. Bethesda can't be trusted.
