Mnemonic for remembering the clusters:
A, B, and C → Weird, Wild, and Worried.
Notice that each of these W words are in alphabetical order!

I think personality disorders are really “ordering systems” that occur when a person does not have the support for creating a foundation on which to build a healthy self. There are a limited number of personality disorders, because they are all survival strategies that humans and perhaps some other primates adopt to protect themselves. In many descriptions of personality disorders, there’s some underlying idea of “ normal”, and that this normal is a given unless we have some kind of “ disorder”. But what’s misleading, and can be alienating and dehumanizing about these explanations, is that personality disorders are not seen as an understandable reaction to stress. There’s an inherent “logic” to them, they’re coping strategies and adaptations to unusual stressors that are overwhelming to a child, which keep that child from doing the complex activity of personality building that should ideally occur.
There is in this culture, a lack of understanding of childhood emotional needs, and how much understanding is required to raise sane, confident adults. Many people walking around are children in adult bodies who are constantly struggling. I think anyone with serious Trauma has adopted one of these personality disorders, because they had no opportunity to form a strong ego structure on which to build the rest of their adult self and their life. They had to adopt a simplified self system, a false self. narcissistic personality disorder, for example, is the stance that the person is bigger, better, stronger, and smarter than everyone else, and that’s their protection. Codependent personality disorder is the stance that, I’m just like you, so I’m no threat. Schizoid personality disorder is the stance that I’m impervious, I don’t need anyone, and so I will stand alone, and that is their protection.
(Most people might think that narcissist love themselves. Narcissists act confident, but inside they feel like “ nothing”, “ losers”. )

That’s not where the term antisocial came from, it means anti society, as in we don’t fit into social standards or norms well, not that we don’t like to be social.

Don't narcissists actually have small and fragile egos? The narcissist's divorce from the true self is meant to protect what's left of the ego from further damage.

I relate to schizoid and obsessive compulsive personality disorders. I’m too scared to tell my mental health professional if they think I’m crazy for being like this. I’m scared of diagnosis as well.

'how they are you expected to behave'. Who was put in charge of deciding how I should behave and why wasn't I invited to those discussions as I might believe how I behave is normal and others' ways are not.
