This just shows you how much a parent can love their children. They raised that little boy or girl no matter the turnout. It's heartbreaking.

This part broke me. Jeff is basically the embodiment of the WORST possible turnout for a child ever. A human monster if there ever was one. Yet despite all of his gruesome and evil crimes, his dad still loves him unconditionally. He still sees the innocent baby boy he used to hold in his arms. Lionel was definitely not perfect but that is the mark of a good man and a loving father.

He didn't cried for the monster he cried for Jeff.

There is an interview of Lionel, very old and he started crying because nobody could help Jeffrey, not even him but, he was beyond help. It’s heartbreaking.

This scene gets me because as a father I can only imagine the despair and pain Lionel is feeling. When he looks at Jeffrey's body. He isn't seeing the monstrous man that slaughtered so many people. He is looking at his baby boy that he loved, and held, and raised.

It's hard to feel bad for Jeffery but I will always feel bad for Lionel. A father's love truly is unconditional.

The fact that he kept in touch with him while he was in prison and now seeing his sons body and saying he still loves him is heartbreaking I felt so bad for Lionel

While what Jeffery Dahmer did was absolutely vile, disgusting, and downright unforgivable, this scene was still heartbreaking.(because his father)

Lionel is still alive and he has been dealing with this for nearly 30 years now. He still sees the sweet son he used to have, not the monster. Despite how much Dahmer deserved to go through the suffering, his father didn't. No parent should have to outlive their child.
Edit: Unfortunate Lionel did end up passing away not too long ago, and he had to die with that feeling about his son. Heartbreaking.

This scene gets me because it shows no matter what his dad unconditionally loved him and stood by him till his end

I understand what Jeff did was inhumane, horrific and unforgivable. This scene is heartbreaking knowing his dad for one couldn’t have stopped him from doing what he did, also because even after what he did Jeffery was still the man’s first born son and to see your kid like that probably feels like a part of you dies aswell.

What I respect the most about Lionel is he knew his son was sick and was well aware of what he did and never tried to down play his crimes and tried to tell people his son couldn’t have done the things he’s done and that he’s a good boy.

Lionel deserved a better son 😭. I feel terrible for him as a father.

Richard Jenkins did an AMAZING job as Lionel. I felt his confusion, denial and heartbreak as a father still unconditionally loving your son regardless of his bizarre and heinous crimes. He saw his son and not the monster. He always blamed himself after finding out about his crimes, heartbreaking scene

Seriously, Lionel had mistakes as a father and as a husband, but he didn't deserve to suffer this much. Lionel has my respect, he must be one of the strongest men I've ever heard about

It's because a father's love can be unconditional, that's why he wept. No parent don't want to see their kids die. I believe his crying was towards him, and feeling as tho he had failed as a father. So it's self blame he didn't lead Jeffrey in the right direction, and he still remembered Jeffrey as the baby he had once held in his hands.

Richard Jenkins killed the fuck out of this role. Even sounds like Lionel. Every actor in this series deserves an Emmy and a standing ovation. This show was just so brilliantly done. And it doesn’t glorify Dahmer no matter what all these people are saying. This shit happened. And yes my heart goes out to the victims families. But we can’t pretend evil doesn’t or didn’t ever exist in this world.

Despite his son being a serial killer he's still his dad and u can see the emotion of his father.
