my man just recreated popular songs and told us what key they are in

the fact that every minor key shares it's keys with a major key shows there's definitely a bit of writing talent that needs to go into creating that emotion too, but good tips

One thing I would add onto this is the contrast between writing melodies and achieving consonance: while scales serve as a 'secret trick' to unlock consonance, a clear and teachable concept, there's no equivalent secret in creating incredible melodies. It comes from an explorative process and personal expression, rather than a singular, teachable formula. I've heard many times online from people who watch deadmau5 stream that he just moves midi notes up and down until they work haha. Music theory helps but it's mainly about patience and putting the time into it.

Also we had a similar moment there when you played The Veldt. I love how music can envoke that kind of response.

Never thought about phrygian scale as feeling of sexiness :) but it is indeed. Great examples!

As soon as you changed the pitch of those notes and the melodies turned into The Veldt I got chills!

P.S Can you do something like this for Chord progressions?

Very helpful, thank you! Been in "information overload" consumption and this was incredibly digestible and helped various things clicked. Just signed up for your "Music Theory for EDM Producers 2.0" class - if you are giving away these tips for free, can't imagine all of the goodies in your full class. Amazing content!

One of the main rules of the internet is that for whatever you’re trying to learn / dude there will be a British dude with a YouTube tutorial ready to help you with it. Music production? Boom. Minecraft mod installation tutorials? Boom. It’s universal
