The Best Method To Opening an iPad Pro & Replacing The USB C Port.

Is your iPad Pro Not Charging? Here's the full step by step tutorial on how a professional repair shop can open the iPad & repair the charging port.

This method of opening the screen applies to all iPad Pro models. iPad Pro 12.9 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, 3rd Gen, 4th Gen and 5th Gen.
Also works for all iPad Pro 11in models.

We also need to properly diagnose the USB Charging issues with the iPad, by using a USB C meter, so we can see the charging voltage & current. Typically USB C iPads will charge at 15V and about 2A and you must be testing with a USB C charging brick that supports USB-PD (Power Delivery).

In some cases, the USB C Meter may not even turn on because it's not detecting the device when plugging it in. In this video, that is what we see.

In other cases, you'll see it detects the device, but only charges at 5V or it doesn't draw any current, like 0.000A. These can also indicate the charging port is bad.

If you replace the charging port & it is still not charging at 15V & 2A, then maybe you have a motherboard issue, which will require further diagnostics.

Here are the tools we used in today's video:

This was great. My son has worn out the charging port and I am contemplating doing this eventually. For now putting pressure on the side of the charging cable gets it to start charging.

This video gave me hope because my iPad is out of warranty and service centre is costing a lot for replacement . What do you think the issue is with my iPad Pro 11 m1 because it charges but sometimes it stops charging because of heat, , but the battery back up is around three hours. At the same time. The battery health is 92%. Also, recently I noticed that my pen drives are not working unless I connect them through a powered type C hub .

alcohol use is a great way to disassembly the ipad. but using metal tools is a bit dangerous to lift the glass/LCD. prefer to use thin plastic tools, you can put an entry barrier of 1-3mm so you don't hesitate to slip the tools and damage the LCD. Also, when you find double-sided LCD glue, you can cut and pull it gently following the glue. This can be very helpful in opening the LCD without having to use too many tools. Since the iPad Pro lcd has a small space to stick to the body, gently pulling the double-sided tape glue is a very safe way to open the iPad. pull a little with tweezers, add alcohol, and so on. it's a great video by the way, good job.

Hi Jesse, I just refurbished a 12.9 3rd gen a few days ago which is essentially the same process. After gluing back the screen like new, realised the USB C port, charges only from one side and not the other. The type C metre turns on and shows 30W charging on one side, but does not turn on from the other. You think it's worth taking apart again and re-gluing just to replace the port since it charges normally from one side? The new Qianli carbon fibre opening / prying tools are really cool

We use Playing cards to cut the adhesive and for insertion to keep separation. Extremely safe.

Quick question. I’m trying to purchase some chips but haven’t been able to and was wondering if you can help me. It’s the ROM IC for the cd3217b12, not the cd3217b12 as I have loads of those but the little ROM IC chips. Do you know the part number for those or have a link for them please? I’ve been on Ali but can’t find them. Really stuck and need help. Thanks rich
