Can Lexus Beat Acura At The 3-Row Game? | 2024 Lexus TX Review & Comparison

The Lexus TX isn't quite the "Lexus Minivan" that some folks have been asking for, but it is the next best thing: a well-priced 3-row with TONS of room inside. The generous 3rd row, large cargo area, and of course the Lexus logo have propelled the TX from newbie to 2nd best seller in just a few months. Will the TX eclipse the sales leader from Acura? I' not sure but I'd say it has a solid chance. But... Is it any good? That's a different and trickier question because the TX is, in my humble opinion, the "least Lexus" that Lexus has ever built. But also: the hybrids are great, the price is right, and despite the recent recall it's still likely to be the most reliable in the segment.

The interior just does not scream Lexus to me.

Saw this at the DC Autoshow. It’s… not impressive in person. Really did feel like fifty shades of grey plastics in the interior. The issue with current generation of Lexus interiors is old Lexus interiors. If you are coming from a previous Lexus product, the newer TX, GX, all feel a substantial step down.

While this is a great looking crossover, It would’ve been nice to make it a bit more distinguishable from the Grand Highlander. The premium price just makes no sense to that of the Grand Highlander…

I own this. The "sport" seats are the worst I've ever experienced (I also own a C8 corvette and love those sport seats). The bolsters are too narrow and are hard as a rock. This is the problem with these reviewers. The seat feels just a little snug but ok at first, but over time they are painful, and can cause spasms in my thigh. This guy gave them a 9/10, which is insane. I'm 6'1'' but very thin, yet, to me, its like a child's seat with hard plastic edges that my thighs rest on top of. The seat is fine for small thin people, but terrible for everyone else. The lumbar is also useless for tall people. Ruins the car. I regret buying it. Will have to get rid of it early and take a loss.

2024 US vehicle sales...
Acura MDX: 21, 593
Lexus TX: 21, 322
... it's competitive AF.

I am very appreciative of how you always mention child seat practicality in the second row for vehicles like this. Best auto reviewer/analyst there is. Thanks, Alex!

16:30 "Plain Jane". That pretty much sums up my impression of the TX too.

Isn’t there a stop sale on this and the Toyota Grand Highlander for curtain airbag concerns?

The Infinity interior is definitely a much nicer place to be in every way. The Lexus inside is still too Toyotaish. But hard to beat the fuel economy for sure.

The interior is major let down for the TX. Doesn’t feel premium enough compared to Grand Highlander. Basically just third row power seats, little better leather, and some touch point in softer and more expensive stuff that you have to pay attention to notice. The larger screen isn’t really noticeable due to the button in GH become part of the screen. The good stuff is powertrain in the 500h plus but it’s expensive enough that the interior doesn’t look appropriate for the price tag. XC90 interior is better in most of the trims, also MDX. It’s a hard pass for us. Buy GRAND HIGHLANDER.

My wife test drove it a couple months ago. They were selling like crazy when we were there. Waiting in their recalls.

More room and more space then MDX, TX gets rear wheel steering but it’s hard to compete with double wishbone front suspension

Isn't there a recall and stop build order on the TX?

Question: is this one in the test drive Lexus TX F sport version? If so, how does its ride comfort (suspension softness) compare with that of its other versions such as TX 350 and TX 550h+? Which one has the softest ride on bumpy roads? Thank you for your attention and feedback!

You kept mentioning the four wheel steering, but I'm disappointed that it's only available on the hybrid (not the plug-in or base model).

I know you said Lexus is steering away from the Spindle grill, but this looks much more Toyota than Lexus and idk if that's the best thing for Lexus.

Really appreciate the review. But I think Lexus stopped selling TX on June 20 due to a recall of the curtain airbags. Do you have any intel on that? Like when will the stop-sell be over?
