Is Acura More Reliable Than Lexus?

It's the great Acura vs Lexus reliability battle where I let you know whether or not there is any luxury car brand that can stand up against Lexus. We're talking reliability, which means ownership costs or maintenance costs, depreciation, and just how much fun one of these Acura or Lexus cars are to own.

Where we believe that Life's Too Short To Drive Boring Cars so we just don't and you shouldn't either.

I’ve been a Acura/Honda user all my driving life and reliability is A1. I recently switched to a Lexus IS, and I’m beyond impressed. Attention to detail and quality is far superior on a Lexus. Overall you can’t go wrong with any of these brands.

The 2013-2016 RDX is almost zero issues. I drove many, rock solid.

Nice job again Mark. I still have a 2005 Acura MDX. No problems. Just proactive maintenance. I just went past 269, 000 miles. Keep up the great job. Stay warm up there (from sunny 😎 Florida )

I’ve owned both. And loved both. However my Lexus had a Toyota sludge engine and the engine and transmission blew at 99, 000 miles. Lexus did replace both for free. I traded that Lexus in on a 2006 RX330 and the transmission blew at 130, 000 miles. I’ve driven Honda’s ever since and haven’t had a single issue. Currently driving a 2021 TLX A-Spec and it’s my favorite car that I’ve ever owned.

Can’t go wrong either way, Lexus gets the edge on reliability, and Acura a close second. Performance nod goes to Acura. It’s a personal preference I would own either one.

2014 Acura RDX with 270, 000 km...no problems at all so far and I drive somewhat aggressively....love the soft ride and ELS stereo, wish the road noise and frequency of brake service was less

We have had a '20 MDX SH-AWD eighteen month's now with ZERO issues. Neighbor across the street has a '19 RX-350 which I drove prior to our purchasing the MDX. I'll choose the MDX all day long, great ride, plenty of pep and trunk space is plus as well

2005 MDX owner here. 201, 000 miles and it’s a beast. Especially in snow! With 3rd row it’s so good.

Proper maintenance and respectful handling, both with last forever. My opinion is Acura 💯

Had a 2006 MDX with 289, 000 until a 16year old ran a stop sign and t boned it and insurance claimed it was totaled.
Had no doubt it would've gone another 20-30k easy. No major repairs only did routine maintenance

Lexus is known for better reliability but Acura’s styling and handling is so much better.

Acura/ Honda automatics like to give out. Toyota had minimal issues with few models, when you take into account a lot of the Lexus models are made in Japan you have a clear-cut winner for reliability.

Great review. As an owner of an 06 Base TL with 400, 000 miles on the original auto transmission I must disagree with the unreliability of said auto trannies. The "secret" that most people are oblivious to is that using the parking brake everytime you park will protect and preserve the life of the car's transmission. This applies to all cars not just Honda/Acuras.

Lexus is way more reliable with a much larger lineup with way more technology and complexity. Acura has what 4 vehicles all made in ohio.

The MDX is Acura’s bread and butter model. They’ve been rock solid since 07.

Riding around in my 18 year old Lexus. Looks brand new. 32, 500 on it. Lexus for the win!

The fact that Acura/Honda stuck with the 3.5L V6 is why we went with a 2023 Acura MDX over the Lexus RX350's tiny overstressed turbo. I have owned several Lexus and Acura vehicles and they have always been great, but I think we are going to see a real divide now that Toyota is using all tiny turbos and hybrids. A definite no thanks in my book.

Both are good and it depends on the model. The transmissions for both will be the first things to go.
