Why is Blender Free

when you take a look at blender and what it can do as 3d package you can't ignore its price tag which is $0 . so how come an advanced 3d program such as Blender is available to everybody
for free no questions asked.

So I'm not emotional at all, but I legit started to tear up from tom's interview. I never considered anyone to be a hero of mine. But he is the first hero in my mind, in a world so hell bent on corruption and selling your soul for money. But here you have a man going against everyone else's beliefs and motives, he's going against the absolute norm. For this you have my absolute respect and admiration, as this shows your true character. Which is hard to find now a days.

Been using maya and max for 15 years and after blender 2.81 I'm never going back. These are good people making big moves for the little guys. This is how it's done guys and no one no mater what they say is going to be able to stop blender. Don't be fool by these greedy companies taking your money telling you blender is not for professionals.

I totally feel the "just wanting to make things" sentiment. I think a lot of developers got into it because they just love what they do, one is hard-pressed to find developers only in it for the money. There are many free, open-source applications, but there are few at the insane level that Blender is at. Super impressive. On top of that, seeing such a top-tier application with full Linux support is freaking amazing.
