I'm pretty sure any school would accept me if I cured cancer.

I knew someone in high school that got rejected by MIT. He was at a science fair presenting a project and he got a lot of positive feedback. One of the people there told him he should apply to MIT and he told him he did and got rejected. The person worked at admissions and gave him his info so they could talk. He reapplied and got admitted to MIT.
I'm glad he got a second chance.

It’s not only about fit, it’s about daddy’s money.

"Fit" is synonymous with "your daddy donated a stadium to Harvard and your ancestors founded the damn college"

him: “it’s not about intelligence, or accomplishments”

I remember applying for a school called "St. Paul's", after having an amazing results and passing on every single step, I was almost sure I would pass and join the school. Then, I received a last email that I had gotten rejected for not knowing how to play a musical instrument, yes, that's true. (now I'm at another very good school called Avenues which I got a scholarship on, this one actually values my intelligence, which the other school didn't.) So I can agree that college admissions are not fair.

Harvard: Nah
Me: I can also throw a ball slightly farther than average
Harvard: Perfect you're in

Definition of school: a place where you learn things
Definition of tests: a way to check your intelligence
Harvard: *we don't do that here*

Person: Gets 1610 on SAT, becomes Valedictorian, is president of multiple clubs, takes 12 AP classes
Harvard: Mmmhh, nah, not good enough.
Other person: Ranked 900th in school of 920, has a 2.1 GPA, didnt even take any honors courses, but parents and grandparents went to Harvard.
Harvard: Yeah, I think we should accept him.

It’s not about if you find the cure to cancer, it’s about how hard you can hit a ball

It's just luck. Fit matters to some extent but the top 20 schools all have more perfect applicants than spots to fill. So they just pick subjectively. That's why you have to apply to all of them in hopes that one or two say yes

At this point you could compose music better than Chopin, be a bigger maestro than Liszt, and probably still not get in.
