I have a new approach to growing as a software developer since starting my new job. Using this approach, I was able to pick up Ruby on Rails in only 2 days. I'll discuss all of this in the video.

Just passing by while watching some Rails videos and this one got my interest. Quite enjoyed the format of this video and relaxed conversation pace. Thanks.

All these languages and frameworks are just different enough to make you crazy. Focus on the concepts and understanding what questions to Google to help you solve problems. We should be building hotels on Mars by now. Instead we keep reinventing the wheel.

People spend a lot of time beating themselves up, always thinking they don't know enough. Find a pet project to work on and contribute to. That will teach you much more than any tutorial, video or book.

Being an "expert" in a modern framework is difficult since the next version is always right around the corner. Everything you think you know can be tossed out for a newer (better?) version.

This a good guide for someone who seems to be working towards a upskill deadline. Thanks for the hints.

This video deserves way more views and likes. As an entry level software developer, this video has immense value. Thank you so much for sharing.

This video couldn't happen at a better time. A start-up is willing to hire me as a web developer using Moodle (LMS) built in PHP which I've never used. This makes total sense. Thanks a lot.

In my opinion, programming (coding, or developing. Call it what you want) is about principals and frameworks.
Some people don't know what is database or even what a table is, and they say we want to be programmers or even hackers !!!!
1. Learn some html, play with MS excel and MS access.
2. Learn keyboard shortcuts.
3. Learn some cmd commands (create, delete, rename, move files and folders -- how to start and stop services).
4. Learn about batch files and how to miss up your files, and network settings .
5. Understand what these mean: frontend, backend and frameworks.
6. Learn plain php, then move to laravel.
7. Learn jquery.
8. If you master laravel, I think you can move to other MVC frameworks easily.
9. Learn Vue.
10. Join a telegram group to see what developers talk about.
11. If you face a problem stackoverflow and reddit are great resources.

Don't try to be a master in each step, learn the basics and move forward to the next step.

Have fun or other way, you will get bored.

In other words, learn your basics and you already know ~70%/~80% of all back end frameworks

I know Ruby on Rails, since I watched a video "Learn Ruby in 5 minutes" video. I am the man for the job!

Coming from Rails and having never seen Laravel before this is so interesting to see! I would have never guessed that the similarities are so great! Since Rails was created 2004 and Laravel 2011 it seems like they took a lot of inspiration from Rails and created a "Rails for PHP" which I believe is a great thing.

Hey Travis, I run a bootcamp in Conway, AR that focuses on Java mostly, but we do offer a C#/.Net course as well. I try to make the point to students about the transferability of what they're learning to other stacks, and I'll share this to help make the point. Thanks!

Switching to Ruby + Capybara from Selenium Java. This was insightful.

Only real developers who struggled with this problem can understand it. That's how industry development team and developers work. But I think this is a great tip not only for development, it can be used in other areas. I couldn't stop me from pressing the subscribe button. But because I think you are deserved to get more subscribers, I suggest you don't leave comments to negative feedback. No reply would be better. In this world, we can't stop others blaming you. Just ignore them and focusing on what you are doing would open more doors.
