With the thousands of Linux distributions available, which is the best Linux distribution for programming? The answer is simple - there is no best Linux distribution for programming because fundamentally, Linux distributions are similar. Therefore, you can take software from one Linux distribution and install it on another Linux distribution. So, a better question is - What do you need out of a Linux distribution? We will look at some popular options such as Ubuntu, Arch Linux, and Linux Mint and discuss why you might want to use one over another for programming.

The thing is if your rolling distro is using the right repositories the odds of it breaking go down considerably. Stability in most of the rolling distributions has improved dramatically in the last few years.

I definitely distro hop, usually at significant life transitions. Switched to Manjaro when I started a CS bachelor's program, gonna finally hop to Arch when I graduate, btw. Had mint and Ubuntu before that

It is an operating system. Linux itself is not an OS, but the Linux distro people use is, which is obviously what they were referring to. You shouldn’t overthink things

I've been using Manjaro for a couple of years now as my daily driver. The most software availability is due to the aur and the easiest experience I have had with a Linux distro gui. XFCE version. I installed software with the gui package managers most of the time. Usually, if I can't install through the main Gui package manager, then octopi Gui usually works. I am comfortable with the command line more and more each day. Due to all the reasons above, Manjaro is the best overall experience with Linux so far. Great video btw!

This was an excellent video. Way more actual information than most I've seen on the topic while still being very accessible. Any more thoughts on Arch vs Gentoo? Trying to decide between the two and wondering if there are any major reasons to go for one over the other.

This is written by Linus Torvalds "Linux is a family of open-source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel" for your point at 1:00 when you google Linux.

i think nixos is best for programming. for the obvious reason that it's a containerized operating system.
but when it comes to linux, the ones i like are the ones that work well with all my hardware. which at this time, is EOS and PopOs.

Hi Alfed, I am fairly new to programming, almost 2 years in. I strongly considering downloading one of the different kernels systems for my laptop. I was wondering which kernel from your personal opinion would be better? I primarily use Macos laptop so I am familiar with the zsh terminal and I program primarily with Django a backend framework with vs-code and Android Studio with Kotlin. I know the basics of the terminal commands like the cd, cd .., ls, ls -a, mkdir, rmdir, . Python pip commands and some npm for JavaScript. I guessing my terminal commands are kind of limited but I am looking to learn more in order to become better at Linux. Knowing this do you have any recommendations for me? I would appreciate your personal opinion, thank you Alfred.

Hi bro, please my question is what is the name of the theme you use at the beginning of the video?
And how can I get it

You missed the best middle ground destro out there, Fedora, not an old kernel like a debian based destro and not as bleeding edge as arch. With the backing of Red Hat and a 6 month (ish) release schedule you get the best of both worlds. Once you go Fedora you'll never hop again.
