Don't overcomplicate your setup.

Debian's nice until you need to manually hunt down dependencies for programs in the repository, want to install a program that used to be supported in the last version but is now considered "unstable", or want to break internet access for every program just by installing a VPN. But hey, all about being "stable" right?

I used Debian and then apt deleted my graphics driver and DE, I switched to arch because I "wanted to try it" and I have been using it since

Gentoo: make your own damn computer
Arch: here’s a computer but you have to put the OS on the disk without a normal installer (if I catch you needing help once I will break your kneecaps)
Ubuntu: here’s everything and then some stuff you don’t want to manage but you will anyways
Debian: bam here’s a computer

Ayee you used my recommendation! ty
Also even though nobody asked... I'd recommend Linux Mint. And if you want the user friendliness of Ubuntu, the Windows-like experience and the stability of Debian, in my opinion, Linux Mint Debian Edition is the way to go.

I upgraded my PC and used my old gaming rig to install Linux and try out different distros. Once I got Linux installed, Steam setup, and other programs I used it for like a month along side Windows till I was spending more time on the Linux machine gaming then the Windows one. Then I wiped my newer Windows machine and set it up with Linux. If you don't have a spare computer, use a spare hard drive. I worked out a lot of issues that way before fully switching over. Also I use Linux Mint. This was after using Redhat, Gentoo, CentOS, Ubuntu, and some Debian on the side. Mint just worked for me best and installs easier then a Windows 11 install/setup for my hardware.

Started out on Intel/Nvidia and now I'm full AMD. Both work fine though Nvidia has big binary blob drivers that can get tricky now and then. Had to manually edit a config file for Nvidia to get things working at one point cause their drivers were messing with the GUI improperly. AMD on the other hand was just a quick kernel upgrade away from getting graphics working with games. Seriously it was like a few quick GUI clicks easy. Good luck!

tumbleweed user here, can confirm arch has an amazing wiki. it helped me more than the opensuse forums did.

Additionally you can use debian backports where packages are recompiled from their testing branch, which also tries to keep dependencies stable as much as possible.

Since debian has a testing and unstable branch, I don't even need Arch anyway. And AUR is just same thing as you compile something with a pre-made script.

I just use Fedora Gnome, been working totally fine for me. I do miss Windows though every time I want to play a vr game.

Hi, I am a developer of my own distro, and I can't install Debian.

I use Fedora. It's good once you solve the "only free software" issue of a fresh install (rpm-fusion is your friend). I also used to use Linux Mint, which is fairly beginner friendly, but I got sick of the Ubuntu-like update model and the severely outdated software of Ubuntu repos. Arch is ok, but not for a beginner imho. Gentoo looks good, but I never tried it

Great for home server use but for Desktop Bazzite seems to hit the spot with a good balance between Stability and newness of packages!

I use Manjaro, because Arch is too hard but I still want to look down on other Linux users.

I used to use Kali when I was getting into cybersecurity and it introduced me better with Linux in general, however, now I use Debian Bullseye with Alacritty shell and LXQt DE

I tried to install debain:
Error, system was frozen after 5 minutes, newer driver wasn't supported, internet problems...
It was a beautiful time.
