Yup! This would be a great replacement for pressure sensors that are super DIY right now for detecting when you are in bed or sitting on the couch. Would be great if you could overlap zones slightly, so if you were moving from the couch to the dining table it would have it illuminated in advance and you're not walking into a dark room for any amount of time.

The Aqara FP2 Is A GAME CHANGER. Hopefully it supports more smart home ecosystems. 😍

I reckon by having more individualy controllable down lights, and dimming then as you move, you could make the room lights follow you smoothly, dimming as you leave, but stay at 50% if you are in the zone next to it

Something I love about this sensor is the look. I HATE placing my Hue motion sensor in the bathroom or other private areas, because people who haven't seen it before will DEFINITELY think it's a camera (due to the big white ball poking out of the middle). Having to explain it to everyone who visits me is both a little creepy and somewhat unbelievable lol.

"Hey guys, just so you know I PROMISE this totally isn't a camera peaking on you in the bathroom, just a harmless motion sensor" 😂

Aqara is consistently making really useful components available without vendor lock-in at very reasonable prices.

Also, something else people may not know - these sensors can see through thin walls and doors. I use this to trigger a light inside a bedroom even if the door is closed and I’m outside the room walking up to it. If you want to test this, just remove the edges in the app that you may have set on the wall you’re looking to “see through.”

To add the FP2 to Home Assistant you need to do the following steps:
1. Add the FP2 to HomeKit through the Aqara App.
2. Setup your motion zones in the Aqara App.
3. Remove any of the FP2 sensors from within the Apple Home app. Removing one will remove all of them.
4. It should discover the FP2 within HomeAssistant using the HomeKit Controller integration, and you just need to enter the Apple HomeKit device code found on the FP2. It will automatically sync the zones you previously created, and any future changes in the Aqara app for zones will propagate to Home Assistant.

Aqara is one of my favorite companies. They really seem focus on building that are very fast, small, and capable

I was fortunate to get 2 of these. A suggestion, a video on how to setup and configure the zones and other features for this device would be very helpful. These tips would be huge. Thanks!

I was part of the beta program and it's amazing to see how it changed over the course of months since being in beta

Looks very interesting. The only thing I would change would be the harsh light switch on/off. Instead I would have the lights fade on or off to give it that fluid touch.

0:56 - 120 degrees does not measure a radius, it measures an angle
1:23 - 60 GHz, NOT 60 Hz. That's a factor of a billion different. 5 megameters vs 5 millimeters.

When this is directly available in Home Assistant including zones, I might be getting more than one - how neat. And the distance limiting seems kind of critical for this technology - I don't really want to know when my neighbors are walking around (well, I don't want or need to know it, but how fascinating that I could).

Is it possible to program it to turn on hue lights at a specific color temperature if I walk into the room at a specific time? For example, when I walk into the kitchen after 6pm, turn on warm lights. But when I walk into the kitchen at 7am, turn on cooler, brighter light?

I'm only using the fp1 but even that is a game changer! I'd been trying for years to find a good solution for smart lighting in our office where my husband and I both play video games. Motion sensors don't work because we're sitting and I've tried IOT link on my computer but it's buggy and hasn't been working with home assistant for months. These aqara fp sensors are crazy accurate at knowing when were in the room! I haven had the lights turn off on me ONCE. I haven't even set up zone detection yet either. I can't wait to set that up so Home Assistant can know if my husband is at his desk. That's something I've never been able to automate before because asking him to get IOT link would just be a hassle

Would love to know where you placed it when you tested it out in your living room. Just wondering it’s range

Did not even hesitate to purchase two of these and cannot wait to see them in action. I think this is such a great potential and happy Aqara came out with it. If it is half as reliable as the rest of their products I have and use - this will be great. The zone feature is what I am most excited about. Thank you Reed for another great video.

Thank you so much for sharing this video! I have to say, this presence detector is absolutely revolutionary. The technology behind it is truly impressive, and I can imagine it being incredibly useful in so many different situations. Thanks again Reed and Aly for sharing this awesome content!

Gonna get this for sure as soon as it gets integrated with Home Assistant

Yes this is a great sensor, I actually control lights in three rooms... Pass through the door (zone) and turn on lights in the next room... Too cool...
