The Aqara FP1 is an absolute game changer for your Smart Home, in my opinion. It is a sensor specifically designed for room presence detection and solves a problem for us all which we have had for a long time: accurate and reliable room presence without having to carry any extra devices with you at all times. In this video, I show you some of its features and also some minor setbacks.

This is pretty much what soooo many smart home users have wanted for years. Room presence detection is one of the Holy Grails of home automation.

This is exactly what the home automation community has been waiting on for years, well done Aqara, please roll this out worldwide.

Aqara, please bring this to the US market, this looks amazing!

I'll take three!
I hate when people say "game changer" because it never is This may be an exception! 😮 A real shame they didn't add a traditional motion sensor and router capability. I'm glad there is a temperature sensor. I could take my current temperature sensor and move it elsewhere.

I would probably buy a couple, this thing looks insanely good, compared to something like room assistant on a RPI Zero, where you also need another device!

Most useful sensor for smart homes! Hoping to see this available in the international market ASAP.

Also - as mentioned, if there was a future “FP2” device release, the little niggles / ideas (such as the potential to combine a conventional motion sensor below within the same enclosure, have it support ZigBee routing as a permanently powered device, and perhaps changing to having a USB-C socket on the unit so that people can BYO different cable lengths for power than the one supplied in the box if needed [and hence not hard wired].

Even with the current little niggles, this is an exciting innovation from Aqara that hasn’t been adequately solved by their competitors - PLEASE Aqara, get this product released to the global market ASAP!

Yup. I've already scanned all the regular sellers. Would buy it the moment it gets available in Europe.

This is exactly what a YouTuber should be doing, producing content that is really new. Fantastic reporting on a new product. Will be buying one ASAP.

Yeelight make a combined mmWAve/PIR sensor, but it’s even harder to find than the FP1. It also requires their Pro Bluetooth mesh hub (also equally rare…).

I guess the real reason Aqara is not launching this anywhere else is that it uses a mini radar tech which operates in a pre defined frequency band. In many countries, some frequency bands are reserved only for military use. For example, Pixel 4 phone had a Soli radar chip, due to this it was not allowed to launch in India because it used 60GHz band which was regulated by government and thus banned for civilian use.

The automations possible with this are amazing, and no other sensor seems comparable. This should absolutely be sold in the US, assuming there's the market for it!

Glad you managed to get hold of one, it sounds like that was a real challenge!

Seems to be a great option though, and less faff than other presence sensing options.

Hopefully Aqara will watch the video and release them worldwide, as well as incorporate some of your suggestions into future versions.

Just bought 3 on eBay, Aqara really needs to sell these

I made something similar to this using ESPHome and a microwave motion sensor. The great thing about these sensors is that they do not need line of sight to detect presence. Mine detects presence pretty much immediately, but I don’t have the ability to detect direction of movement.

Thanks for reviewing this product! I initially started using Aqara products because of their Magic Cube which is quite unique in the scene controller space. This looks like another unique item that can draw positive attention to their brand in an crowded area. I have used several other Aqara products since buying the Magic Cube and am always impressed with the quality, functionality and reliability of their products. I hope they bring this to other markets soon -- especially the US. 😃

Hope they start selling them in the US market soon! Definitely would be interested in a few for my home, have been considering using ESPhome and Raspberry Pi Zeros. Would love these devices for simplicity's sake instead. Think I'll hold off on presence detection until I can get my hands on one or two of these. Basically have three or four rooms I'd like to cover.

Hello from Canada. Love watching your reviews for A. You're a hottie! 😉 B. I love your accent! C. I'm really into smart home devices. I'm currently waiting for some SwitchBot items to arrive. Got some SwitchBot Curtain (rod), 3 NFC tags and a 4-pack of the Meter Plus. I hope to eventually get the smart humidifier too.

That's great! Would be awesome if they included traditional motion sensing as well as environmental sensors such as light level, temp, humidity, tampering.
