There are only around 20 supervolcanoes in the entire world. And when they erupt, they are among the most cataclysmic events on earth. And there is one simmering under Yellowstone. So, just how bad would it be if it exploded? Weathered's Maiya May explains.

Solar and wind (with storage) need to be the backbone of our power generation but we need nuclear backup power just in case!

The great news is that Yellowstone and other supervolcanos are increasing in activity.Yellowstone is massive but smaller then the biggest that is active at the moment.The odds of each one erupting have dramatically increased, the odds that 1 of them will are much higher, each has the the ability to change the world globally.Yellowstone is within its average eruption period.

Yellowstone has erupted much more often than 3 times. The hotspot has made calderae all the way to oregon, and was likely connected to the Washington flood basalts from ~15 Mio. years ago.

If? Try WHEN! It's definitely going to erupt it's just a matter of when and the size of the eruption..
Okay, YS has 2 maybe 3 magma chambers, and they're significantly larger than we thought, I mean significantly!!
If YS were to erupt in a single massive blowout where the whole caldera floor collapsed at once it would be a America ending event.. The floor is miles by miles wide and YS has enough magma and explosive rhyolite to level the entire west in minutes..Rhyolite is highly explosive and as volatile as tnt, and the whole YS caldera is lined with it, it would be the equivalent of setting of a few nukes at one time..
The magma chambers are miles by miles wide and deep and could feed a constant eruption for months or possibly years.. YS is a super volcano the makes other super volcano's look like toys..
Currently YS is having 2.0+ earthquakes/tremors/seismic and volcanic tremors DAILY!
Like I said, not if but when... You can Google everything stated and fact check it for yourselves...
Also the federal government has just spent millions putting in gas readers, new seismic monitors and advanced equipment in the last 2 months..
They've been adding gravel and rocks to roads to dissipate the heat coming up from the ground (meaning the magma is closer to the surface than ever before) The ground at YS National Park is like glass currently and you can hear popping on the monitors they have around the park, the popping is becoming so significant that they've had to change settings on monitors to mask it from people...

Won’t there be like, thousands of years of dramatic changes, geologically speaking, in the area before that massive of an eruption? Often we get months of earthquakes and topographic changes prior to a tiny eruption.
