How Traditional Italian Gelato Is Made | Regional Eats

In the small Italian town of Ruvo di Puglia, siblings Giuliana and Vincenzo Paparella carry on a 180-year-old family tradition making gelato from only three ingredients: milk, sugar, and eggs. It all started in 1840 when Uncle Luigi brought the art of gelato making from the royal courts of Naples to his hometown, Ruvo, and gave it a home. Fast-forward four generations, and the original 1840 recipe, the King's Cream, has been joined by seven other flavors: pistachio, almond, chocolate, quince, nougat, gianduia, and hazelnut. Behind each and every one of them, the two siblings will transform every ingredient but sugar, from crushing cocoa beans to sourcing vanilla pods from Mexico. We follow Giuliana while she shows us the preparation behind the almond flavor.

That Iranian saffron one at the end is a staple ice cream in Iran. It is usually served with chunks of white cream on top, and called “Bastani Sonati”. It can also be served with “Faloodeh” which is a frozen noodles and syrup. Very yummy. Sometimes the saffron ice cream has pistachio chunks in it as well, as Iran is known to be one of the highest exporters of pistachios in the world.

I wouldn't mind paying €10 for this. It's a result of pure labour of love and dedication unlike any other.

This place is INCREDIBLE!
Unfortunately very few "Gelateria" in Italy makes ice cream from scratch. They use industrial premade flavours which they add to a base ice cream. If a Gelateria has many flavours with strong colors you can be 100% sure its not natural or home made.

Had some great gelato in Naples when I was stationed there in the 80s and worked downtown naples. My landlord loved the boxed American 3 color napoletana icecream I use to get her the at navy commissary! Ha

There's nothing better than listening to an interview in the person's natural language 😌 I'm not frequent on this channel but seeing how many people pointed out their appreciation towards an Italian interviewer made me realize how different and maybe even difficult this could have been without her

Both France and Italia always impress me with their cuisine. On a full course dinner, I'd love French cuisine as appetizer and soup, and Italian as main and dessert. Yum

The personalities of these two make this video so much more enjoyable than if it was simply an informative voice over.
