Fanfic Writers Be Like...

Tell me, fellow fanfiction writers, is this video relatable? 'Cause my brain has not been firing on all cylinders this month, so I just wanted to make a goofy vid and this is what happened in the process. My brain could be rotted from all the fanfiction I've been writing too; who knows?
Thanks for watching, and let me know your own thoughts on what fanfic writers "be like!"

There's no deeper pain than being in a perpetual state of writer's block, yet constantly coming up with interesting ideas that you just can't put into actual words. 😡😭

Having a vastly spanning AU in your head that you haven’t written a single word of is so real… someday…

That last one is so true. I recently reread one of my favourite fics and decided to leave a long in-depth comment on every chapter, because they're very dense and there's so much to love. But then after I placed a comment, the author responded that they'd gotten the notification for the comment on their way to class, stopped paying attention and almost got hit by a car...

I almost killed my favourite fanfiction writer, because they liked my comments so much.

Update: I kept posting long in-depth comments, but the author has suddenly stopped responding… I think I have blood on my hands.

One commenter wrote TWO whole essays under the same fic and I am STILL flabbergasted and I will never delete those emails

One of the worst parts of being a fanfic writer is I have so many fics for so many different fandoms playing in my head.

There are so many which have and never will see the light of day.

Yeah I’ll watch this instead of writing my fanfic

Tip for writer’s block! (disclaimer that while this works for me, it might not work for everyone): when I can’t write out the full story even when I’m thinking about it, I open a document and outline. A lot of people were conditioned to hate outlining because of school, but it doesn’t have to be cookie-cutter.

You don’t need a specific diagram: I just do extensive bullet points! They don’t even need to be organized by chapter or scene as long as you can get these ideas out of your head.

My outlining looks something like this:

- Character A wakes up and feels awful
- idk maybe they had a bad night or maybe just some sensory issues
- they felt super paranoid/nervous because something reminded them of [traumatic event]
- Character B comes into their room and sees them
- first thought: [feeling]

What I mean to say, is that your outlining probably won’t start out detailed! But, once you start getting ideas out, it becomes a lot easier. And, if its still hard, you’re only outlining, so theres no shame or danger in stopping

4:05 As someone who mostly writes original fiction - that's not just fanfic, trust me. It's been NEARLY 4 YEARS, AND I'M ONLY ABOUT HALFWAY THROUGH THE FIRST ACT. 😭

And here I thought I was the only one who wrote an entire fic because there was a scene I wanted to draw, but couldn’t draw people well enough to.

0:26 I went through something like this recently IRL 😅

I went to a college for a visit, where I told a Creative Writing/English professor that I had published works online. When she later asked (with my parents + another person present) what I wrote, I said "Oh, like... I take pre-existing media and write like... what-if scenarios and... stuff." The other person immediately went "Oh, fanfiction?" and I was surprised when the professor didn't hesitate to start talking about how fanfiction was 1: a good thing to write, and 2: was, in a way, original fiction (I can't remember the whole explanation as to why). In the end, it was an informative experience, and I'm just glad that I wasn't seen as a weirdo.

I’m a Miraculous fan. If I encounter a plot hole, I MUST write a fic to “fix” it in my head so it doesn’t bother me anymore.
Season 5 ended. I watched the finale. (iykyk)
I’m still “fixing” that one a year later.
I’m rewriting EVERYTHING IN THE SEASON to set up for a better ending.

Just the other day I had my first experience reading an insane fanfic writer’s authors note out in the wild! (As opposed to a YouTube compilation). It read, “After two hurricanes and an impromptu hospital visit, the chapter is finally done!”. Come hell or high water. . . THEY WILL WRITE

I've only started writing fanfic again like 2 months ago after 10 years of not writing anything but oh boy some of these things are definitely painfully relatable 😭 i have like 6 or 7 ideas and I'm working on 4 at the moment and haven't finished anything yet

STOP-WHY- WHY DID YOU HAVE TO CALL ME OUT ON THAT-
too many… too many entire stories I will never share with anyone…
Stories that are perfect.
BUT CAN’T BE WRITTEN IN ANYWAY-

Also me: Quick! Let's take a break from that one and start writing a new one!

That first one is accurate, even if I refuse to write RPF. How am I supposed to explain to people that I write for a video game series, but focus on the 1996 Japan only SNES entry?
