What Canon Moments Feel Like Fanfiction?

Did that romance plot feel like it came from a fanfiction? Was that character so perfect that she was like a Mary Sue self-insert? Did the story suddenly turn into a fix-it fic of itself? What are moments from your fandoms that felt too fanfiction-y (in a good OR bad way) to be real?

Lots of people are suprised by the fact that the nickname "Baby Boy" that Deadpool uses for Spider-Man in almost all Spideypool fics is canon, and came from the comics. It even predates the ship going mainstream, so it wasn't even fanservice.

Disney animated Cinderella 3 like it’s a time travel plot that makes the villain more threatening, gives a stepsister a redemption arc, the prince a personality and so determined to save his love that he jumps out a window, and makes Ella take her happily ever after without any help from a fairy godmother. Also the other stepsister gets turned into comedy relief. At the end they don’t go back to their original times and tbh it’s for the better.

While on the topic of disney products i will also say them hitting me with a time travel plot at the end of s3 of Once Upon a Time to make it so that the mc was always part of the fairytales and the side characters’ histories while also doing a whole ballroom scene with her love interest is straight out of a fanfic IM writing

When talking about Good Omens everyone mentions season 2 but season 1 had that one scene where Aziraphale yelled at Crowley to “do something or I’ll” and for a second it looks like he’s going to threaten him with his sword but instead he goes “or I’ll never talk to you again” in the softest voice and Crowley just immediately… stops time itself?? By sheer willpower??? Power by love???

That was some straight up Ao3 cheese, how do you write that into your script and not have the characters kiss by the end?

i love that supernatural is mentioned here twice, and neither times does it mention the scooby doo crossover episode, where a ghost sucks them into the tv, the winchesters reveal to the mystery gang that ghosts are in fact real, and they all start having a mental breakdown complete with daphne questioning which afterlife she'll end up in. also, velma kisses sam at the end of the episode.

also, to add on to destiel: they coparent a child in the last couple of seasons... like i'm not even exaggerating, jack literally refers to them both as being his parents, and they both refer to him as being their kid/son

I love how many of these are ‘the writer committed to a canon queer relationship that was strongly built up throughout the series with tons of chemistry between the characters’. people are really so used to queerbaiting and gay undertones that the writer actually going for it feels like fanfic

Ever After High has one of the best "canon fanfiction" moments:

Darling Charming waking up Apple White with "true loves kiss" (or CPR as the directors tried to play it off, but there was literally a white light we all know) after she went into a cursed from a poison apple like in her destiny that she had been desperately trying to obtain but got in vain and despite the fact that she is seen as this perfect princess and the most popular girl in schlll with a perfect and destined STRAIGHT highschool romance with Daring Charming AKA Darling Charming's brother??? Peak fanfiction behavior.

Squidward quits and ends up homeless, SpongeBob invites him to move in and have his bed, squid ends up abusing him to the point of making him wear a MAID OUTFIT, "And WHY aren't you in UNIFORM?" CRAZY

Something that happens a lot with Ace Attorney is when you think that the fandom is exaggerating how gay Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth's interactions are, and then you play the games and realize that they really are just like that. "Thanks to you, I am saddled with unnecessary feelings" is something I swear I've read in fanfiction before I played

It's just one panel, but there's a Marvel comic where Reed sees an AU where it's confirmed Civil War wouldn't have happened if Cap and Iron Man got married. Tony is a woman in that universe, which feels like the most tacked on "no homo" ever
