- During Echegaray's trial, Rodessa's mother accused her daughter of lying and claimed that the accusation was motivated by the greed of Rodessa's grandmother. She even testified on his behalf, denying that Echegaray was her daughter's real father in an attempt to reduce his sentence from death to life imprisonment. However, Rosalie's stance changed after Echegaray decided to marry an old college girlfriend instead of her, just a week before his execution. It was at this point that Rosalie returned to her daughter and mother, admitting that her daughter had been violated by Echegaray multiple times.

- Echegaray was the first person to be executed in the Philippines after the death penalty was reinstated in 1993, marking the first execution in the country in 23 years. The execution became a media spectacle, with selected journalists allowed to witness it. The event drew protests both for and against the death penalty, and it is reported that the execution was closely followed by approximately 70 million FIlipinos.

- In his final moments Echegaray stated, "People of the Philippines, forgive me of the sin which you have accused me. A Filipino, killed by fellow Filipinos." And just before the execution was carried out, his last words were: “Baby, forgive me.” (“Baby” was Rodessa’s nickname).

Honestly, seeing Connor at the beginning made me laugh more than it should have because I did not expect that

the sardines in the Philippines are mostly the ones in tomato sauce. and that tuyo/danggit or dried fish should be cooked though, 😅 fry it up on a slightly oiled pan. it would wrinkle when cooked. should be slightly golden brown in color, has a crispy almost chicharron crunch texture. often served with spiced vinegar for dipping. for those who aren't aware, sardines and dried fish is a staple (mostly breakfast) meal in the Philippines. he probably considers it as a comfort food.

Once i saw the dried fish on the short's preview, I knew that it will be Leo Echegaray. So glad to see that you finally reviewed a death row final meal request that came from an Asian country. As a Filipino myself, i've known this case for quite a long time. And although I was not born yet when the case and the execution took place, the mere publicity that this case have in our home country up to this day is more than enough for me to be knowledgeable about this. I was in high school when this guy was executed. You should have fried the dried fish in oil. And yes, as another dude mentioned, the sardines we have here are usually canned with tomato sauce.
